They are finally getting Annies wings back on!
Note the semi collapsed starboard gear.

The Wessex is now displayed against the wall where the large scale model biplanes once were (which are now residing inside the Argosy!!) Reg XR525. No info on it at the moment, anyone know of its origin/history?

The Varsity is sitting outside waiting to go in Hangar 1. The Bulldog and the Gnats have gone (I think I glimpsed the red gnat in the restoration shop)

The Comet will follow after Christmas. I was told that she will probably be repainted in situ in hangar 1 (in Air France colours) as the “shop” is full. Fella on the desk said that she never wore RAF colours??
The ‘test bed’ Jetrstream is sitting on the outside of hangar 3. I was told that she will be either scrapped (although they are not quite sure if that is true) or turned into an attraction for kids? Don’t think they would have moved her there if she was being scrapped.
Nice Napier Lion W12 engine from a shneider trophy seaplane (floatplane?) on display which I don’t remember seeing before.

Still think it’ll be a tight squeeze to get the Varsity and Comet in there. Will make getting a full shot impossible I think.

Three Comets indoors – so Duxford, Cosford and I’m stuck for the other. I didn’t know another was undercover, where is she?

There is virtually nothing left inside the cabin of the Comet. There are the remains of the first class seating, but the rest of the cabin is empty.
The cockpit is in excellent shape though – there is a piccy on Marc Schaeffers excellent Comet website.
Great – 2 weeks ago, there was just one Comet preserved indoors; now there are three! Not before time I say!

Nice to be able to see her upper surfaces. Shows that graceful wing off niceley. Would be nice if they could spruce up/restore the interior so you can view the cockpit, as they did with the Trident.

I was also at Cosford today the Varsity should move inside this week.

Today at Cosford – Sunday 10th December 2006
Went down to Cosford today on the news that the Comet was indoors.
On arrival saw the Varsity was still outdoors, but at least “our” side of the fence, so maybe she willl go indoors this week.
The Comet was inside, and receiving a much needed clean. They’ve removed her air-intake covers at the front so she looks a lot better than she outside.
Also, the other side of the Visitors Centre, on the concrete circle where the Trident used to sit, they’ve moved the Neptune, so you can see her as soon as you enter the visitors centre.

Kev35: daft sod! Kids are happy as they were homing rabbits. Taken hours of training to teach them to use parachutes. Survival kit includes freeze dried julienne of carrot and a map made out of lettuce. 😉

I hope Air France arn’t sponsoring the paint !! Imagine in a few years if they want it repainting and the cash isn’t there!!!!

I cant see Air France colours on the Comet being of much interest to the general public. And its not as if Cosford is going to be must go for enthusiasts of airliners anymore…

Ivan.
Your parasol was noted on approach to runway 15 at BHX last night. It overflew Walsall at about 2,000 feet and going at a fair lick.
Your rabbit hutch was not spotted however but local Radio carried reports of a ‘a plague of falling rabbits’ this morning in the Hockley Heath area.
Hope this helps.

kev35

Lee; Thats what I thought, hence my questiony type marks on the statement! All the peeps I speak to at Cosford are polite and always willing to help, but if they are giving out spurious info to the public and I can only get the “real” info from t’internet, then there is surely a communication problem that needs addressing.
Badger617; After seeing the garden parasol and the rabbit’s hutch/run tarpaulin head towards Walsall at a height that may affect inbound to BHX, I can only hope you are right!

I think you will find the plan is to get the Comet inside before Christmas Ivan.

Oh yes she did – XM823, see hereXM823 Piccie Linky
Orginally F-BGNZ. As a teenager I spent a whole winter painting out the fuselage of her sister, F-BGNX, at Salisbury Hall (Bruce will recall).

Ivan – why don’t you wait and see what happens to her?
I ‘m intrigued now!! I’ll probably be up there again in a fortnight. Off to Duxford with the lad on Saturday. Hope his little legs will cope with the walking!!

Good news about the jetstream. Anyone know where I can view it’s history? I believe it was an avionics development aircraft?
Jetstreams preserved, now it’s time for a 748!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a scouse chappie with specs on the front desk who told me. The other chap with him didn’t know it had been moved! Don’t know who to ask now!!! 😀
