It was a pretty busy day at Duxford today. In the morning we had the B-17 and Spitfire pair out for the Memorial Flypasts at Madingley (covered in other threads). Didn’t see much of Sally, as she simply departed, did the flypast, circled to the north for a while and landed straight back in to the airfield. The Spitfires were another story though. They initally returned with a tail chase pairs routine over Duxford which was fantastic before Lee Proudfoot brought TD248 in to land leaving the stage clear for a solo display from Alistair Kay in MH434.
TD248 is looking quite splendid in the D-Day scheme, despite its lack of authenticity….
Later in the day I also saw the tank demonstration and Stuart Goldspink taking the TFC P-47 out for a spin. Pics of that later…..
Hmm… I wonder whether anyone can identify this.
Aeroplane and bird type please.
Grumpy, and I’d guess at pigeon.
I will miss Grumpy when she goes Stateside.

One of the scale modelling magazines has a feature on a model of ML407 as she was on D-Day – looks good, but I think the V is a bit on the big side. If I can scan it, I’ll post up a pic.
Interestingly, it looks as though ‘407’s stripes are a bit ‘rough’! Authenticity! 😉

Superb pics!
The spit looks better than it was at Antwerp last week. The black nose is better than the red:

Hmm… I wonder whether anyone can identify this. Aeroplane and bird type please. And also I wonder whether it’ll be cleaned off by Sunday. I will be checking… 😉

TD248 looks rather smart in that scheme IMHO, as does ML407 with her stripes.

I was there on Sunday, only one Spit though ML407. The TBird was operating from the Tarmac so hopefully the runway is now ok!

I note revised top wing Roundels from last week. 🙂

Steve – I must be in that shot! Down by the fence. I couldn’t believe they kept the Rapide waiting so long…..

Cracking shots Dave. Here’s another one of the Thunderbolt, not particularly good quality but it’s difficult to hold it steady when the Dragon Rapide pilot’s doing his power checks… 😉

Nice photos Dave. Some should tell Lee Proudfoot to put his pipe out before going flying.
