I’m probably geograhically somewhere in the middle of events today at Rougham, North Weald and the Moth Rally at Woburn.
For anyone going to those events, I have to say that the weather here is not good, strong wind from the north west, low unbroken cloud and constant light rainfall, and it’s b##### cold.
Coupled with that, wev’e all come down with some sort of stomach bug and it isn’t wise to get too far from a toilet at the moment.
Pity, I rather like going to Rougham and quite fancied today’s show, but I fear there will be a few cancellations due to crosswinds, not only that, but the car parking area can get very muddy when it’s wet, so much for our long hot summer, I hope it improves for DX in 2 weeks time.

Only 50? 😮
Yep, seemed like more though. I still had a good time, I mean 50 dehavillands, who wouldn’t have? 😀
Still we managed to have a good day despite an “intersting” approach, landing and taxi by one certain Moth. Less said the better there.
Was that the one that seemed to come down the road swing a sharp left and invent his own runway?

Sherburn-in-Elmet’s ‘Breitling Day’ (Sunday) was breezy at times but everything flew – including RAC’s 3 warbirds and ‘Putt-putt’s’, BBMF, Sea Fury etc etc. Cold in that there breeze though!

Weather wasn’t the best for Mothing – a crosswind all day and low cloud at the start and lots of “clag”.

I aplogise if I appeared to be putting people off going to Rougham, but the weather here was pretty grim all day, it appeared to start brightening up about lunch time and I was going to issue a favourable report, however I nipped across the road to the shop and the heavens opened again, I got soaked just running back.
The lack of light a/c movements was very noticeable, it’s usually pretty busy round here on a sunday, and all the inbound Stansted flights were lost in the low clag.
I did attend a Wings, Wheels and Steam event in similar conditions and some of the landings and take offs were pretty hairy.
I’m glad that the event did turn out to be a success for all concerned, I would sooner have been there than curled up with gut ache and having to show prospective purchasers around the house.
I promise not to be so gloomy for the Spitfire Show.
Incidentally, the weather here today is even worse, heavy rain but not so windy.

At North Weald we lost our Bulldog ‘missing man’, who was clagged in at Leicester, but managed a three-ship instead. The Norwegian F16s departed in good weather and by the time we were giving the Air Cadets some Air Experience Flights the vis was about 30Km is sunshine. Must admit the wind was a bit frisky though, even for a Bulldog!

Please don’t put peeps off with inaccuracies like ‘crosswinds’, etc.
Especially at Rougham which has a very serviceable crosswind strip

I must say I also enjoyed the Moth Rally at Woburn as well. 50 interpid aviators made it in, more flew over and decided against it. The landings were to say the least interesting! Hours of fun for us not having to make them, pull up a chair, get out the popcorn, crack open a beer and enjoy – better than any airshow. 😀

Payback time for the heatwave we had – hardly suprising.
