Found by the Freeman Field Recovery group in the US, so indicating possibly, but not certainly Axis in origin.

This help any?
Yes, it looks more light-alloy than cast-iron in that shot…
…which was one of the things I had against it being the compressor-casting for a jet-engine.
Maybe not a Heinkel-Hirth HeS 011 but there seem to be startling similarities?

This help any?
Now we have some scale i guess we can eliminate domestic size washing machines at least.

It looks a bit like the exhaust outlets you would get on a rocket engine?
V2 perhaps?

Could it be part of a Heinkel-Hirth HeS 011 jet-engine?
The turbine-rotor behind it got me thinking about early German jet-engines. From the top are we looking at the air inlet with central shaft and gear power-take-off (through the hollow radial tunnels) to the starter / auxiliaries mounted on the flange / engine mount. The lower portion being the axial compressor with three rows of fixings for the stator blades?
Or it could be a washing-machine…

Is it a single-piece casting? If it is, from an engineering perspective, there would need to be very good reason for it to be made that way. The lattice-work ribs of the lower portion will add great strength without adding much weight or much extra material.
So were a large number of these made to justify the saving in material and the cost of the casting process?
Or was the strength and low weight the issue (whatever the cost)?
