TOM9283 (G-OBYI) at LAX

Hello all,
I’ve been in Los Angeles for a few days now and the second day I was here (Tuesday 28th Mar) I seen a Thomson fly takeoff on the other runway (25R) to where I was (24R), I turned on the scanner and heard the callsign “Thomson 9383” (G-OBYI) does anyone know why is was here, where it came in from and went out to?

Thanks
Nick

Aircraft positioning to or from Auckland for fitting of new IFE system.Alot of the 763 fleet are being rotated through for this work.Routing that way as ANZ offer free crew positioning and free fuel to get the work.So not a difficult choice really!!

While on the subject of TOM’s 763s does anyone know yet if they have or are being been fitted with the newer style overhead bins the same as on their 762s?

Thanks

I can second that as well–has been via LAX for years as their main route into LHR–iI used to work for an airport transfer company and had checked that flihght lots of times for drivers!

AFAIK Air New Zealand’s primary route to/from the UK has been via LA for years.

I belive ‘YI’ is due for its cabin refurb. Could be positioning over to AKL for this.
Although the usual route over to there is via Asia, not the states.

I had some positioning Thomson pilots on an LA return I did a few months ago. I believe they have got some sort of 767 maintenance contract over there.
