Tommy's Questions 1

Having seen a few photos of GSM’s 763 at MAN parked on remote stands, im wondering when it comes to exiting or boarding the plane when i go to Toronto if i will be getting a bus to the aircraft or do they move the aircraft to an air bridge.

Pertinent section is right at the top of page 12:

“Unless otherwise required by ATC, Runway 23R/23L shall be used for all movements when there is a head wind component and when a tail wind component is not greater than 5 kt on either runway”

which runway

Which runway would i most likely take off from Manchester on Sunday if the winds are north to north westerley. Do they favour 5 or 23 if the winds are crosswinds.

Alicante 1990 from Manchester

I am trying to remember which airline and aircraft i would of flown on in 1990 on a Saturday night in August from MAN-Alicante. Would it of been Britannia, Air Europe, Dan Air ????
If anyone has a timetable that would be great.

Well, less British in Spain (drop of 15% in our resorts), more Spaniards in London…sorry guys…..it will be more noisy with more of us wandering 😀 And……..as a frequent flier who books flights from London, for me is just great. I am going shopping in january to the sales 🙂

Just one example. Long haul with Emirates right now at 430 pounds, which is 430 euros………wowwww…great.

The weak pound is good for tourism in(to) Britain – or at least that’s what the Govt would like us to think.

It will depend largely on the level of airline costs and where they are incurred. Likewise, revenues and where they are earned and in what currency.

And whilst it is true that exchange rates may go up or down you can bet your life that companies in the airline supply chain will be increasingly requiring their customers to pay bills promptly, and thus the current exchange rate will be important.

Thus the current changes in the value of sterling will have an effect on airline financial sheet bottom lines.

There are a few factors here. For foreign airlines the current situation will cause problems because us Brits still only want to pay the same amount for our fare that we’ve always paid, so they have an income in sterling, which they then need to change to their own currency for their costs (excluding fuel, I’ll be on that in a min). So for Euro zone airlines it was great when the £ was worth more than the Euro ‘cos they profited.

The pound is worth less $ at the moment, but the $ is still weakening, so for UK carriers they will feel the effect of fuel more until the $ drops a bit because fuel is purchased in US$. For Euro Zone airlines though they’re doing well on their fuel costs because the $ is dropping against the €, so great for them.

Airlines sometimes make a lot of money from currency exchange, and they hedge in the same way that they do for fuel, so they guarantee a price for a time period that they will buy/sell at. Also many airlines will hold funds to try and change it at the best possible rate before they desperately need to release funds.

Lets not forget the pound is still very strong. It’s just a little less strong than before.

Following on from Bmused, our pound is growing weaker because of Gordon Brown and his wacky financial solutions, but it’s only a matter of time before the european countires follow suit and the euro decreases in value itself.

What impact does this have on the airlines? I don’t actually know. :dev2:

Does anyone know if this is going to affect many airlines next summer ?

how long is a piece of string?

It’s too early to tell. The markets can change rapidly. The Pound could climb up again, could go down even further. Either event will make any prediction now invalid.

Getting bussed across the ramp is 10x more fun anyway! 😀

Yup, but make sure you have your camera handy. You should see the looks I get pulling out a 350D/30D with Sigma 50-500 attached on the bus and pointing it around the place. Quite comical!

But who cares if you are bussed or given an airbrige??
Does it make you sway towards choosing an airline, if you feel so degraded that you are being bussed to your aircraft??

Next time i get bussed to an aircraft, i’ll complain to the operating company, in fact i’ll write to Zoom asking them why the hell i was given a bus to get to Terminal two after a 9hr flight from Vancouver back in March!

And if i’m bussed next Sunday, i’ll write to Jet2 to complain.

Sorry, but who cares!!

Yes but the point I think he’s making is why even bother answering it? just laugh at it while reading it and move on  .

Hmm… If I didn’t disagree I’d probably think you had a fair point.

Well… They say honesty is the best policy so here goes…

Wth the greatest respect, Tommy, a reply can’t be seriously written because you ask such ridiculous and, quite frankly, comical questions! Not only that, but you regularly create multiple threads, each with a single, individual question when everything you’d like to ask could be consolidated into one thread.

Surely you can see the mild comedy value in this threads question? In all the people I know who have some kind of connection to or relationship with aviation, I don’t know anyone who would ask questions like you do, and that in itself is funny! 🙂

I take it you haven’t seen the press release?

“As a fuel saving measure, we regret that FlyGlobespan Airways are no longer able to transport passengers. Our aircraft will only carry passengers luggage to their destination. Our partnership with with P&O Cruises means passengers will now travel by sea to their destination, where they will meet their aircraft and collect their baggage.”

I’d guess your luggage will be bussed to the aircraft, but you’d better start making arrangements to get yourself to Southampton, Tommy. I’d recommend the train as opposed to National Express. It’s a bit more expensive but a much more comfortable ride.

Paul

LMAO! Just brilliant! Does it really matter, Tommy? As long as you get on the thing and fly to Toronto, who cares!? Just wait and see.
