Tool Manufacturers…

Does anyone know if it is possible to find the original suppliers and/or manufacturers of a tool based on the stores reference number and/or part numbers? I have both of these numbers and I am trying to trace these back to see where the suppliers were based and if there could be any detailed specs or drawings that have survived.

Any pointers on where to start would be appreciated.

or just what aircraft stores reference numbers refer to?

Just that.

My copy is 1949 and runs to 20 odd pages.

Very useful for checking Stores Ref.s, and associated A.P. No.s, but not much else.

RAFM, NA etc will have copies and some will no doubt pre- and post-date mine.

I have never seen AP1086…does it list manufacturers of equipment or just what aircraft stores reference numbers refer to? I am hoping that 26BX/3210 may have a supplier against it (which would more than likely be the same supplier as 26V/9882 as 26BX was for tubes greater than or equal to 2″ OD and 26V was less than 2″OD). Did you get your copy of 1086 from the RAF museum? is it a large volume?

My 1949 copy of A.P.1086, Book 1 confirms that 26BX is for Typhoon and Tempest spares (but I suspect you already knew that), and it doesn’t list anything against 26V.

So probably not much use after all!

DaveR, IIRC, the ‘1086’ was the RAF Form 1086. This rather large document was on microfiche and was the parts catologue for everything general used in the RAF. Its been over 10 years since I’ve used one. Hope this helps.

If someone has an OOOLD copy of a 1086, there might be cross references.

Bit of a stab in the dark.

Stores ref 26V/9882 Part No M.960 and Stores Ref 26BX/3210 Part No T.D.1035

These are the original parts numbers for 2 different hand operated tube squaring machines.

Old RAF/MoD Stock numbers (current ones are Sect (Numbers/Letters)/7 figures). RAFM Hendon may be able to help on this one, I cannot I’m afriad.

Somebody may have them gathering dust ,unless it is something really unusual of course?
