Top Gear – new season

Wonder if Jezz, Hamster and Captain Slow read these forums?

Closing shots over the White Cliffs of the Grace Spitfire with a Hurricane doing a fly past of the assembled ranks of Jaguar E-Types in a tongue in cheek celebration of Britishness…

Must say the Eagle Speedster does look rather nice…

Please tell me you’re not one of those extreme risk chasing people who listens to the Archers whilst wearing slippers AND smoking a pipe?

Rumour has it, that because we have said what we have, about extreme risks, Pete has arranged for a BUNGEE jump, from the TOP wing of a Tiger,Obviously whilst said A/craft is on the ground. whoopee do 😀 (Walks away laughing like MUTLEY;)

Yes, but I take precautions!

I could reply to that comment James, but it’s a Family forum. 😀

I’m fully prepared for the slippers, probably not the pipe and the Archers, the minute I lose my desire to get airborne in a biplane, one more time!!:)

To be honest I think I prefer pipes and slippers to Tiger & Stearmans!

Absolutely, but none of those though:p. I listed the two new things I want to try…..a Tiger and a Stearman flight!!:diablo:

I am happy to reassure you that I have no slippers, never smoked a pipe and never, ever listened to the Archers.

Crumbs I have, you need to try new things!

Just guessing – a lot!;) The story about F1 started in column in a NewsCorp paper written by the arts correspondent. So how much is foul rumour and how much fact remains to be seen. If the viewing figures are down it probably has to do with the sport itself rather than Beeb coverage.

It wasn’t the best one – I wonder how much arm twisting had to be done to get them on the circuit at Monaco, or how much the Beeb paid BE to allow them to film?

The recent news that F1 on the BBC is now under threat due to the cost involved and the low viewing figures (compared to the wonderful spectacle of Wombledon) maybe Bernie thought it a good way to extract a bit more from them!

I’d rather be in a Tiger or a Stearman!!:diablo: I thought the sports hatch saga a bit lame compared to earlier ones…….and I am happy to reassure you that I have no slippers, never smoked a pipe and never, ever listened to the Archers. Hope that makes you feel better.;);)

Oh dear, Sky High, I hope I am wrong, but there’s nothing wrong with the current series so far.
Could it be, you have lost that adventerous feeling?. Slippers by the fire, pipe stuck in mouth listning to the Archers?.:(

Think I will have to bring H.D.1 down to Kent, and pull a few “Gs” just to jog your memory.
Please don’t tell me your too old, to still want to put the pedal to the metal. 😀

Writing as a long-time fan of the programme and risking an avalanche of incoming, are the producers and the boys just begining to try too hard? The new series just seems to lack something but I can’t put my finger on it. Or is it that most long-running series eventually pall? Is it becoming too predictable, perhaps?

Haven’t managed to watch any of the new series yet, but got the Sky-plussed so will watch them soon.

Another vote for Captain Slow from me, though. The man’s a stone-cold legend!

It wasn’t nearly as quick as it looked, the handling was, by modern day standards, laughable whereas the braking system was positively life threatening.
And, as has been pointed out, they rusted faster than a Lancia Beta.

Moggy

All the reason why I (we) don’t own one.:D
A friend had one when I was in the UK. Any thoughts of bringing one back were banished when the oil leaks and maintenance issues he had continued to grow.
I’ve just finished paying for a mid to high-end restoration of a 1963 American GT, but the costs for that pale compared to what it would cost in parts and labour to get a E-type right.

Like many 60s autos, I would imagine they’re more fun to look at than own/repair or even drive. We’ve become too used to 4-wheel disks and all the modcons that even the least expensive cars have now.

The Eagle E-types rebuilt with modern systems look appealing, but at 100,000pounds, they’re too pricey for me.

Still, they’re an icon. As an American motoring journalist famously called them in period..”The greatest crumpet catcher known to man”.

Absolutely first rate, a heartbreaker from any angle.

I had one back in the 1970s

It wasn’t nearly as quick as it looked, the handling was, by modern day standards, laughable whereas the braking system was positively life threatening.

And, as has been pointed out, they rusted faster than a Lancia Beta.

Lovely to look at, but today strictly a car for pootling a fully restored example around the Cotswolds at 40 mph and never taking it out in the rain.
