Director Tony Scott has confirmed that the long talked-about Top Gun 2 will take flight in the next couple of years and the scriptwriters have confirmed that Maverick is the main character. Now all we need is Tom Cruise and Val “Ice Man” Kilmer to sign on the dotted line.

Ok, plot line predictions anyone?
I say:
US vs. North Korea (which has somehow become the operator of CGI Su-37’s and J-10’s)….all I can say is PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE no fake F-5’s or F-16’s even…we have the technology people!!! CGI all the way…

I agree …. the original was in no way excellent. :diablo:
Aliens, though, now that was an excellent sequel to an excellent film.
My Father used to work at Elstree Studios and worked on Alien and Aliens. I wanted him to bring me back one of the face huggers for my bedroom wall when filming had finished, but he forgot.
i remember hearing about Art Scholl filming background shots for the gimbal apparatus, used on sound stages, for Top Gun. It is generally thought that camera equipment attached to the Pitts Special altered its weight and balance envelope, making recovery from the flat spin impossible. Official details are here:

I love Top Gun 😮 🙂 even though every time I watch it my girlfriend insists on talking over it to explain the gay undertones
The extras on the Blu ray are excellent. Its worth buying just for the `making of`. All the people interviewed, who were involved in making the film, say that the story was just a way to get the film made and that they saw it as just gaps between the flying sequences. Lets hope this one is the same and there is no CGI rubbish.
I have to agree the Hornet is nothing compared to the Tomcat. I will still be camping out in Wales at the end of May if the big exercise goes ahead 😎

Beverly Hills Cop 4 and The Brazilian Job ,the follow up to Paramount’s US remake of The Italian Job is still on the cards…..
I certainly hope it’s not the Brazilian job, where the only stars are women?.;)
And yet, there again…………………………………….

S.H. and Moggy C.I believe I am right in stating that Arnie is considering making a number 3 of the Terminator.

I reckon Hollywood is on a mission to make each sequel worse then its predecessor…………;)

I’d be surprised if they didn’t opt for the CGI route in this day and age. Not that it’s a substitute for the real thing, but the financial argument is compelling. Also CGI would allow for shots difficult or impossible to pull off IRL.

Why not do a CGI Top Gun? (remember the fantastic snippets of the film on Youtube I Flew For The Fuhrer – Helnz Knocke’s Luftwaffe Memoirs?)
Could have a wonderful Top Gun Cold war style? F4 Phantoms, the list is endless….

To answer someone who posted about F 18 as a replacement, I think pure in ‘looks’ the F 18 holds nothing against the Tomcat.
I think it’s more a case of what’s available at the time.for filming.

I’ll take your word for it, but since I thought the original was dire, 2 did not have a hard job to be better……;)

Nobody think the Hornet would make a decent substitute?
Daz. I agree, the Hornet is good, watched them taking off and landing at night in a docu landings etc were on USS Nimitz.

Are they still using them? I thought they were reported as defunct not long after they arrived?
Top Gun is a film of its era, no way could anything as cheesy and fake be made like that now – can it?!
Tomcat was an impressive beast though.
