For those not working, late on this morning’s BBC Breakfast, Tom Skerritt was interviewed as part of the promotion for the re-release of ‘Top Gun’ on the big screen.
With the mighty F-14 now out of service, and we have all probably seen it many times on the TV, I for one won’t miss the chance to see it again after twenty odd years.
Great non CGI aviation photography with music that still raises a tingle on your neck.

Have I miss something here or do I understand from this topic that Top Gun is being re-released??

As for the gay overtones, I wondered that at the time. A gay colleague has confirmed recently that yes, there certainly were!
There may be, but I can’t help wondering if we’re looking at an old film through 2007 eyes and sensibilities. We see what we’re looking to see.
If it were a 40’s era film about a squadron, we’d call it stiff upper lip camaraderie…nowdays it’s latently gay.

I absolutely love the MiG-28 with the retractable tail fin in the first opening act.. 😀
that said, the movie educated me in more ways than one on what modern aircombat was all about.

I have to confess that I went to the cinema three times to see it, once myself, then twice with the kids. The opening sequences have got to be the best in any aviation film ever. Catch 22 comes close, though. As for the gay overtones, I wondered that at the time. A gay colleague has confirmed recently that yes, there certainly were!

Just after it came out on video we were stuck at the end of detachment in Bardufoss, Norway. Only 2 videos remaining, the others having gone back, Top Gun and one of a more Scandanavian nature….. Must have seen TG at least 15 times in 2 days!
We soon tired of the other option!

I don’t know how many times my son and I sat through that one at the theater. He was really little. I was covering his eyes for some parts but he was an aviation junkie from a young age and jets on the big screen was fun to see.
He loved “Top Gug” as he pronounced it.
Twas a long time ago

Of course if you typed Quentin Tarantino and Top Gun into Google you might change your views a bit……………
Do you mean his ‘Top Gun speach’?, never really thought about TG in that way but come to think of it there was quite a few shower scenes:rolleyes: .

They didn’t actually say when, but if you are interviewing one of the stars on prime time, as part of the promotion, you would have to think that it was imminent.
