I know the film was made over 30 years ago, but how many of the aircraft used in it still survive? And, indeed, how many are still flying?
I know a good number still go out and about with the Commemorative Air Force and fly their Pearl Harbor displays every year, and a fair few were also used for the movie “Pearl Harbor” a few years ago, but how many others still exist?
As usual, a few pics would be nice! 😉

PhantomII,
I’ve emailed the article to you, with one page per email, otherwise I think the attachments would be too big, even in a compressed folder. Hope that you can read/print it ok.
Geoff.

What a tragedy about the TTT accidents….
At least no one was killed in the PH incident.
Anyway thanks for clearing all that up.
I recently got to see one of the P-40N’s that was used during the making of Pearl Harbor.
She belongs to Planes of Fame based out of Chino, California I believe.
What a beauty she is!
I’ve got some photos I believe, but I can’t find them at the moment.
I’ve got TTT on DVD, and I just can’t bring myself to buy PH on DVD because TTT is just so much better for aviation (or I guess war) enthusiasts like me.
Perhaps I’ll get it someday because despite the stupid love story that I feel ruins the film I do enjoy watching the action scenes (especially the dogfight), and even the incredibly out of place Doolittle Raid at the end.
P.S. I’d love to have a copy of that article from Flypast about Tora Tora Tora.

As I recall it was on of the converted BT-13’s. It’s been some time since I heard about it so my memory may be a bit faulty, but thats what I recall.:(

DDM,
Ooops again. Yes, you’re right, he was asking about PH. My only excuse is that I had just got home from work!

Thanks Geoff
Actually, I think Phantom meant what plane crashed in the making of “Pearl Harbor” – it was a Val, if I remember from watching the “making of” documentary. Apparently the pilot flew into some bad air behind another aircraft and went into a tree. Only injury was a broken finger!
Could be wrong, of course, but I don’t recall seeing anything (except the Buchon accident in September ’00) about other PH planes being lost.

PhantomII,
Pillot Jack Canary, a Technical advisor in charge of assembling the aircraft for the film, was killed when the BT-13 he was ferrying crashed following an in-flight fire.
One of the ‘Vals’ and it’s pilot were lost during filming, though the pilot is not named in this article. A ‘Kate’ was also lost, though in this case the pilot was saved.

DDM,
There’s a five page article on the making of TTT in the December 1991 issue of FlyPast. If you haven’t got this, PM me your address & I’ll photocopy it for you.
In the meantime, here’s the cast list from that article:-

What type of aircraft crashed?
I hope it wasn’t a P-40.
Actually more importantly, was anyone killed?

All I know is that one crashed during the filming of Pearl Harbor. A complete waste for that piece of dreck.
