Not old stuff I know but the ‘modern’ sister forum seems to be populated by total geeks to be guaranteed a sensible response!
Driving down the A40 approaching RAF Northolt yesterday (22.07.01) I was overflown by 4 attack choppers (Apache I think, modern whirly bird reece is not my strong point!). Driving past the airfield moments later, and I spied some Chinooks parked on the old cross runway over on the far side, and amazingly what appeared to be an Tornado F.3 on the ramp by the WW2 hangers!!
As this was a very, very brief glimpse before the anti-view barriers took effect. I dismissed this fast jet apparition at such a RAF base as my mind playing tricks. The choppers weren’t a problem to justify their presence, Bush being in town, but a Tornado F3….nah!
However, this morning sitting here at work but a few miles from RAF Northolt I’ve just seen what was definately a Tornado departing north-eastly out of Northolt!! A work mate then said there was a very noisy (grey pointy shaped – his words!) plane flying into/over the airfield on Saturday, he lives about half mile from the airfield boundary.
Any ideas anyone?, surely you know who wasn’t demanding a fast jet CAP for protection?
This could also be the first fast jet visit to RAF Northolt since the Harrier in the 1969 London-New York airrace?

oh the person i nquestion was grahamOD
