Any new folk with spare Tornado parts to offer? ?

Yeee i agree. I just know how expensive eBay is to sell. I mean straight away you lose 10% as a final value fee, 6% PayPal fee, 20% to the tax man, and 20% to the VAT man, that also assumed you have no employees to pay too. I’d bet you lose 60% on a sale via eBay, which is where i bet most companies sell these things. Guess it looks expensive on the surface, but actually, it isnt that bad. Thanks goodness i dont buy and sell aircraft parts for a living :-s

The stuff comes from Mod surplus . Its bought in large quantity so the individual item cost is low.
By: Ukhopper1983 - 18th January 2017 at 18:38
…i mean, if people are paying a premium from a dealer (assuming buyers can only purchase from dealers, as they are the only people that can get this stuff) folk must really be losing out on money….
By: Ukhopper1983 - 18th January 2017 at 18:35
I get peoples point, i just cant fathom out that this stuff must have all come crom dealers in the first place, so people must be really losing put on money ?

It would still be and is available.
Why is it unfair to advise if you want to save money. I have bought from traders when the price is fair and still do.
In my case saving myself £1120 on one item is pretty fair for me, stuff traders if they want to play silly, that supposedly very rare item I bought cheap was so rare I had to take time to choose the one I wanted.
You came on wanting help etc, here has been some on how you can save yourself money and still get the same bits if you are patient if you go at it like a whirling dervish it will cost you more than it needs to, but if you are happy as I said that’s fine.
It’s all out there, Tornado stuff literally in heaps in some places.
In well over two decades of collecting, trading, and on my fourth cockpit now, I have a pretty fair idea of things.
The reality David is that a lot of Tornado stuff has little value there is a lot of it, like I said drip fed
I’m out

I am a preservationist so I hardly sell on ebay. I have sold and traded and given parts to museums and private projects to help projects move along.
Cannot really see what your point is – there are a very limited number of people involved with Tornados so why should parts prices be high ?
By: Ukhopper1983 - 18th January 2017 at 17:20
Would you sell something to the highest bidder?
By: David Burke - 18th January 2017 at 17:19
The Mod will sell to whoever pays as has always been the case. Selling on ebay is just a new way of selling – it used to be surplus stores etc. There is a limited market for all this stuff and as in any market it will find its true eventually when oversupply forces prices down.
By: Ukhopper1983 - 18th January 2017 at 17:17
Also – it’s just occurred to me, that without dealers/traders, none of this stuff would even be available ?
By: Ukhopper1983 - 18th January 2017 at 17:06
Always happy to pay for things. Yes this is fun, but not so much for traders – they rely on it. Just think its a bit unfair asking people to avoid traders, thats all.
By: Junk Collector - 18th January 2017 at 16:55
Yes but if you pay a premium with this stuff, you will when the market floods with parts which it does, you will lose a lot of money. If you want advice from people doing cockpits that is mine

Sure but dealers run a business, and rely on making money…
If there we’re no business’s, none of this stuff would even be available……
To be honest, i’m happy to pay a premium for something, if it’s genuine and nice.
Filling a car up at Tesco costs a premium, but we have to pay it….

Night school course Economics, supply and demand. Similar to how the diamond market is run.
For example, I needed a mounting skirt for the radome for my cockpit. Two came up on Ebay one for £1250, the other in not great shape £750.
In this case I got one from the same place they did for £130, in as good shape as the one priced £1250, I also got a mint Radome with paperwork as well for £200.
That is the level of mark up you face in the UK. If you are happy to pay it, and got deep pockets fair enough, just advising

Because its more expensive then it needs to be ?
