Tornado GR.1A question – SLIR equipment?

Hi all

I’m about to build an Italeri 1/48 ECR Tornado as a GR.1A. I understand that the 1A versions had their cannons removed like the ECR version, the Vinten ILRS pod fitted under the fuselage, and a SLIR sensor fitted (a small bronze-coloured window on either side of the lower front fuselage under the rear cockpit).

I’m doing a specific aircraft (ZA394 of 2 Sqn, which crashed in Northumberland in January 1990), but the photos I have of her (two, both taken in 1989) show the ILRS fitted and cannons removed, but don’t show the small SLIR windows under the cockpit.

So was this an optional/removable bit of kit? Or had ZA394 just not had them fitted when she was lost in 1990?
