Towed Array sonar "washout"

Hey there.

This is my first post on this site! I have been reading these forums for a while, just out of general curiosity.

I will open my first post with a general question:

Do Soviet and Western Towed array sonar’s (IE Pelamida vs TB-16/23) have similar washout speeds (the speed at which water flow noise deafens the passive sonar)?

I don’t need to know specific speeds or anything, just wondering if their hydrodynamics are similar enough that they will washout at similar speeds.

If they do washout at different speeds, which one in general can operate faster?

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Cheers,
RedDevil.

well not an expert … but ‘washout’ also depends on the processing capablity. Like, seperating the noise from the data, when the noise becomes overwhelming for any meaningful data to be retrived which makes the the use of the towed arrays practically useless …
