Tracking down relatives

Can anyone here help or advise?
Ive been contacted by a friend of a friend in the U.S. who is trying to track down her father whom she has never met.
The information she has is very sparse and its as follows.
The blokes name is George Gair, he is or was English, served in the Royal Navy as an electrical engineer and would have been born between 1932 and 1936 and his ship was in Hong Kong during the period 1959-1961. Any advice given will be much appreciated.

If your friend is 100 per cent certain about the dates, then there seems to be only one candidate according to the searchable births list on findymypast, which is George R Gair, birth registered in 1932 in South Shields, and presumably the gentleman now living in Chester le Street.

This link will give you a few more options if you want to use BT. 🙂

In addition there are two ‘marine death records’ in Genealogy.co.uk which I have not accessed.

There is or was a George R Gair in Chester Le Street and a George Gair living in Gloucester. Both of them are aged over 75. Someone with a current subscription to Ancestry UK, mine has lapsed, should be able to pinpoint his D.O.B. 🙂
