Can’t quite see the hysteria surrounding the ‘red vs blue’ scenario.

For years the UK forces (and also US I believe) have referred to friendly forces as ‘blue’ and opfor as ‘red’.

As for the event as a spectacle, yes very nice, but perhaps if it had been better publicised, many folks would have heard about it BEFORE the day that it took place. I’d have loved to have gone to see it, but was in Belgium on business, and only heard about it through my hotel tv set on Tuesday morning!!

VC10 ZD241 was spotted over the Solent today, apparently she flew in formation with two Jaguars.

Yes, reported by the BBC as ‘a maritime reconnaissance aircraft’ !!

Its on Illustrious for the JSF press briefing that took place today. Paul

Being directly under the flight path for AF Plant 42 I see quite a few JSFs flying around. Ex missus works over at the Skunk Works. They have a total of 10 test pilots on the JSF program………. 9 of them are former RN/RAF Harrier pilots… Which has lead to some rather interesting situations in the local bars when Argie A4 pilots are in town to pick up modified/updated SkyChickens from Lockheed… :diablo:

Brooklands Museum’s P.1127 was also on one of the a/c carriers for the celebrations. Pic of it leaving the museum last week:

yes, heard they restored it just for the event. 🙂

I have to agree with Damien the battle was one of the best set pieces I have ever seen, couldnt have been easy with those ships and the fireworks were simply the best I have ever seen.

The French at one stage did open fire :dev2:

And here’s a historic one I found:

No Aircraft, im sure we can live with that! Interesting pictures Damien. The little I saw on BBC News 24 of the Red, Blue silliness did blown out of proportion. What I did find worrying is that, taking into account that my knowledge of the battle is quite basic, I learnt hardly thing from their coverage.

One of the commentators (maybe Sky News for this one) did kindly point out which ships were at anchor and which were moving though!

What was actually going on with the re-enactment? The commentators seemed to change from it being ‘not based on trafalgar’ to being ‘based on trafalgar’ every 5 minutes!

Seems to me having watched some of the proceedings that the red-v-blue controversy was blown out of all proportion by the press. For a start they actually had ‘Nelson’ in it, and if it was a sanitised, PC, non-specific thing, someone should have told the commentator!

Surely they mean Blue & Yellow?

I just heard on the BBC news that the narration of the battle over the loudspeakers will refer to ‘Red’ and ‘Blue’ forces to avoid national sensitivities.

I mean….COME ON, does that mean airhow commentaries will refer to allied aircraft as ‘Orange forces’?

‘Cuh… ‘

Couldn’t agree more Seafury.

I wonder why they are bothering to celebrate it if they feel the need to refer to each side as ‘Red’ & ‘Blue’ for fear of offending people.

How ridiculous!

Another classic example of political correctness whitewashing (am I allowed to say that?) history. 😡

Ok, back on subject, I was watching the local news at six this evening which was live at the event and saw the RR Spit XIX displaying. 🙂

Cheers

I always thought that Entente Cordiale went down well since we are all part of the EU and agree to disagree on everything, seemingly :p

Perhaps raising the Exocet debate from 1982 could repair relationships :diablo:

Maybe just moor HMS Conqueror next to it?

Any truth to the rumour that the RN is going to sink the FS Charles DeGalle for the finale? or is that just wishful thinking? :dev2:
