Trafalgar Class Images

Looking for Dockyard pictures of Trafalgar class with Type 2020, Type 2074 and especially 2072 Broadband arrays. This first picture is of Triumph under construction. Second Picture was the very hard to find picture of Trafalgar after the collision during perisher of Skye. Not Sure If 2072 (the wide array along side of Triumph is the completed installation. Also anyone know what the predecessor Type 2007 looked like? Pictures of 2007 on Trafalgars, Swiftsures, Resolution etc would be greatly appreciated.

I was an Operator Maintainer Sensors Submarines (hence OMSSMretd) so operated the equipment and carried out very minor maintainance. The basic design of the bow array is the same for 2020 and 2074, I believe it is based on 2001. But you are right in saying that any differences are under the casing.

Thankyou very much OMSSMretd, its always a pleasure to hear from a profesional on such matters. Six years working on Type 2007 / 2072. Wow! As someone who should have joined the Navy, I have always been fascinated by these underwater battleships but public literiture is somewhat contradictory. Iam surprised Clancy got it wrong but there are plenty of forumers who would say its not the first time. I always thought the array ran down either side fwd of casing air vent. Its logical especially looking at older photographs. It’s good to have professional confirmation of the fact. One last question, the damaged bow of Trafalgar and the bow of Triumph: Are the bow sonar dome casings the same in shape or is there a difference between type 2074 and type 2020. I suspect differences are under the dome. Please advise if you can.

Sorry to add to my above if you look at any image of a Trafalgar class boat you can see the 2007/ 2072 array down either side fwd of the casing air vent. If you look at any picture of Triumph you will see that her flank array is the same. 2072 may have differences in the processing side of things which I admit is a bit above my head, but essentially it is just a computerised version of the 2007 which ran on paper rolls.

Trust me mate I served as a sonar operator on both Triumph and Trafalgar and have opearted both 2072 and 2007. Ive had a better look at the phot and it dosent look like a complete installation. Both Trafalgar and Triumph had tiles over the flank array with Trafalgar this was post refit (2nd commision)
it looked nothing like the picture above. I would say that this is some sort of temporary housing. Tom Clancy is good writer, I was there on the day he visited Triumph he was there about 4 hours. I had 6 years experience working with this equipment.

According to Tom Clancy’s book on Submarines in which a tour is made of Triumph, the 2072 is a new array, the dark, long semi-cylindrical bulge running alongside of the picture above. Does anyone know if this is correct or indeed what this bulge ids given that tiles are clearly affixed to rest of the hull?

2072 uses the same hyrophone array as 2007. Like 2007 it can also display info from towed array.
