Traffic over South East – Tuesday

 Can anyone tell me why the skies over the Southend-on-Sea area were last evening full of circling large passenger jets?

They were coming from the west and circling round then disappearing to the west again and also some appeared to be flying from north(ish) to south lower than usual

It was very apparent from about 7.45 until dark.

Though we regularly see heavy traffic bound for Heathrow this was unusual in that it was lower than usual and circling, at times up to 7 aircraft were clearly visible.

Must admit that with nothing on telly it provided some interest.

No particular reason for asking just interested, thanks.

I was watching the SBS that evening in Manchester. The holding point to the south of MAN is called Dayne, and normally A/C leave the hold and fly north east to join the localizer from the south. I noticed at least 2 A/C fly north over the field at about FL60, then turn right to join the localizer from the north. This was due to ‘weather’. Thought my SBS was playing up, but listening to ATC confirmed the flight paths. Better than Corrie!

Probably something to do with the weather in the normal hold areas.

There were a lot of pretty hefty CBs about yesterday evening.
