Tranceiver TR1520/1920 Air Publ 2538H used which aircraft please? & seeks good home

I have from my father a copy of Air Publication 2538H dated 1949 service and test manual and annotated 601 squadron which covers the TR.1520 and 1920 transceiver. I have seen references to this transceiver being used or specified for the Sea Hornet F and the Mosquito 33. I see that 601 squadron operated Vampires and Meteors in the early 50s so presumably this transceiver was used on one or both of these. Does anybody have any information on which aircraft this transceiver was used please? I think this manual is pretty common but if there is anybody out there who could make good use off it then please get in touch, it is complete.
Many thanks Paul

I’ve since looked at the TR.1464 manual; this TR uses the Type 12 controller and it looks the same as the BC-602.

Does anyone know about the use of different control boxes on the TR1520? The early illustrations for the Australian Vampire F.30 show a controller that looks just like a BC-602. Paul’s manual shows quite a different one. Details?!

Thanks Paul for the fine reproduction of the TR1520 manual.

Hi, Paul.

The TR.1520 was used in the Australian single seat Vampires before being replaced by the TR.1936. I imagine it was probably in UK build single seaters also. I would be interested in a copy – will PM you.

Thanks TonyT and John.
Hendon say they have 4 copies but suggested the RAF Signals Museum. Vmars also looks promising as it does not have it on its “available” list and appropriate as my father was a radio ham from before the war. Took a look at the Hornet site and they have a picture there of a different TxRx TR1464. I will certainly try them. The manual is in good condition and is complete, I have very carefully dis-assembled it for scanning as the binding string did not allow lay flat without damage. So a pdf version is available.
Thanks guys.

Hi Paul

As you mention the Sea Hornet, then David Collins on here may find it of use for his Hornet project

If you don’t find a home I may suggest

http://www.vmars.org.uk/

Especially as they are working to put all of theirs online, see

http://www.vmarsmanuals.co.uk/

Haven’t checked to see if they already have it, but a superb gesture on your behalf.
