Following on from the recent post about TransJet. I was at work today and came across The Daily Mirror from Tuesday 18th June and this wonderful (or not so wonderful) airline got a special mention for it’s appauling interior and what could have been a real life situation!
A McDonnel Douglas MD-8x was leased to some holiday company in the UK for charter flights and apparently, the on board facilities and decor was pretty awful. Seats were sellotaped together to stop them falling apart, wires were exposed, AND… while a couple of passengers began boarding the aircraft, technicians were supposedly putting in more seats!
The aircraft taxiied onto the runway and as it done so, smoke was spotted pouring from one of the engines and takeoff was aborted.
Some spokesman bloke for TransJet claimed this was, I quote, “a technical problem” and he disagreed that the interior was tacky and in need of repair..
There’s a moral to this story,
DON’T FLY TRANSJET!!

RE: TransJet
They have a very, very bad reputation! They are flying out of most UK airports pretty much, Manchester and Gatwick mainly but I’ve seen them at EMA (Tuesday flight). Anyway some other stories I’ve heard from another forum:
1) One pilot refused to fly the aircraft because of two flat tyres and was sacked!
2) One pilot on a very late flight deiverted to BHX instead of landing at MAN as scheduled because he lived closer!
And its not unuaual to have very, very long delays!

RE: TransJet
lol be careful T5 – people have been shot for saying better.
Yeah I read something else in the mirror this week, about passengers REFUSING to board the aircraft for the return flight of their holiday (remember the Excalibur DC-10 incident at Manchester/Orlando anyone?).
I know that last summer, Transjet operated flights on Excel Airways’ behalf – but with the extra capacity in the form of an additional to 738s this summer (one bought, one leased from Miami Air) it may not be flying for them this year.
Could this MD-8X not be gap-filling on the odd flight for charter airlines on ad-hoc basis, say if one of their aircraft goes tech??
