Hi folks and international travellers.
As you mat know , one of my sins is music.
I’m flying to LAX later this month and I plan to make a visit Guitar Center on Sunset and get a brand new guitar.
I don’t think that UA will let me take the stuff in the cabin and I wonder if it’s a good idea to check the guitar in due to the very low temperatures in the cargo section.
Any advice? What do you think, is it very cold or is it acceptable?

When I flew to AMS a few weeks ago a girl and her father had a Cello that occupied the seat next to them. I reckon its worth ringing United and seeing what their personal policy is on the issue, they may surprise you 😉
Actaully I did, and I was tiold that I may have to check it in.
That’s was I wonder about temperature in the luggage section of the 777.

Electric or Acoustic? If electric it should be OK in the hold as long as it is packed well. The problem is not the temperature but the general knocking it will take from rampies on the way but if it is boxed and padded it should be ok. If its acoustic you will have to buy a flight case for it, they are not cheap! You may be better off sending it DHL or similar, at least you will get insurance that way and they will take in its original cardboard box. Ask in the guitar centre as they will be able to advise you but I would point out that given the logistics of shipping guitars by air you may find that you will get a better deal hear in the UK. Good luck!
Acoustic Ovation! Anyway , I plan to get a rugged case as I have for my other Ovation.

I took an acoustic guitar in the cabin of an ATP once, they said it would be ok as it was fragile and could be stored in one of the larger lockers at the front of the cabin. I also recently took a Les Paul in a soft bag on board an A319 and it fitted in the overhead locker no problem.
