Travellers face yet more misey

Holidaymakers heading for the Balearic islands are still facing massive delays as strikes continue.Thousand of tourists have been stranded at UK airports over the weekend because of the effects from the coach drivers strike. Some passengers had been waiting for 24 hours although most delays were averaging three to four hours. The UK airports worst hit by the delays have been Gatwick, Manchester and Glasgow. What are your opinionson this.I think that although they are campaigning for a better rage which i know many people would do,i think that it is an annoying and rediculous situation for the passengers and probably a blow to the Balearic’s tourism industry.

RE: Travellers face yet more misey

Just got back from Majorca yesterday. I flew out to Palma on Sat 30 June and was very lucky to get away with just a 1hr 20 min delay with British Midland from East Midlands (F100). I was also being picked up at the airport so no need to join ther 4 hr wait.
The authorities had it organised as best they could in the situation but it shouldn’t have been allowed to get to that stage.
There has top be a better solution than strikes as they benefit nobody. This has again been seen with the Cathay Pacific pilot strike, with all European flights cancelled yesterday.

Well, I just got back from Menorca, flew with Airtours A320 from Newcastle. We had a 3 hour delay on the way out, because the airport at Mahon was absolutly packed, then when we got there we had to hire a car as the queue for the taxi’s was nearly a mile long! I havent seen what it was like in Palma, but must have been terrible. A JMC 757 had been sitting in NCL, since 5PM the afternoon before, where it was going to Mahon also, so I wasnt too badly affected.
BTW, Airtours are a great airline, as I found out.

Well I think, it´s a silly behaviour. One never knows what they would encounter in these destinations. I would never cancel my reservations for one of this problems. I have been going to the UK despite the problems of the foot-and-mouth desease of Mad cows.

Yeah, but I’m not so much talking about the travellers to the Balearic, I’m talking about holiday makers going to Cyprus, or Jamaica, who didn’t have previously have an idea of the Ballearic, and will now see it as a place to avoid.

I think is normal feeling upset. If I were a holidaymaker I would be annoyed. But I feel that reasonable travellers usually are well informed when they travel abroad and don´t make judgements about a country or situation for accidental indidents. Travelling is still an adventure and we should be able to face all type of eventualities. A survey was made among travellers who had come here and after that they were satisfied and had forgotten the strike.

I don’t know, Keltic…
Yes, for Travellers who have been to the Balearic before, they probably know it’s not normally like it, but I was reading in the Newspaper (can’t remember which one) on either Sunday or Monday that some tour operators have run out of aircraft as they’re all stuck at Palma, and flights to Malaga, Faro, Gran Canaria, Turkey, Greece and Jamaica are all being affected as the Aircraft aren’t avaliable. Holidaymakers travelling to these destinations are hardly likely to think well of the Ballearic, are they?

As a Spaniard, as I have to apologize for that and feel ashamed at the same time by these abusive guys….(18% salary rise). Most of the citizens in this country have been demanding our goverment (too soft in this cases) a tough measure. Nothing has been done. It seems that everything is over since they are negociating and an agreement is espected. I don´t really think this would affect the touristic situation since for most of the tourist this is not their first trip to the Islands and know that normally things work reasonable well in here.
