Link to press report on Tri-Pacer G-ARDT crash. Looks like it suffered an incident on / near it’s private strip in Aberdeenshire. Strip is about four miles away from Kingswells where I live, but due to the fact I’m working in Stavanger just now, I can provide no ” Local Knowledge”.
Most important thing – all three walked away. 🙂

Regrettably you cannot run the PA22, a factory built aircraft, on the PFA register.
It is full CAA C of A or nothing in the UK

it is a write off.
How many times have we heard that in the past? Truth is, a plane like the Tri-Pacer is never a “write off”. True, it may be beyond economic repair, if the repair is to be done by professionals paid by the hour. If, however, a skilled individual gets his hands on the “wreck”, he/she can be flying pretty cheaply after a few years if they do not count their work hours as cost. Not being familiar with the UK´s PFA rules (LAA or what ever they are called now!), I can not be sure if it is possible in the UK, but it is very possible in Iceland to register a Tri-Pacer in the experimental catigory if the owner restored it, and I´ve seen many cases of such rebirths of a “write off”, mainly Piper Cubs, and a Pitts.
If they are going to scrap it, please let me know. I have potential customers lined up for the carcass;) The price has to be right of course:D:D:D

Yes but how many times have we heard that before only for the aircraft to re-emerge 10-15 years later?

The wreckage was taken to Scone and from what I can gather it is a write off.

Taken in happier times – at Wroughton IIRC.

Pleased that there were no fatalities and hopefully the injured will soon make a full recovery. It would be a bonus if the will and the finance were there to make her airworthy again, though if the gentleman concerned has no wish to do so then I can understand that too in light of the circumstances. Hopefully he will not lose his love flying and will have many more trouble free years of aviating to come.

Agreed, no picture of a distressed classic looks good in my book.

I hate that picture.
It looks so similar to my own aircraft that it makes me shudder to see it like that.
As you say, good that all walked away from it though.
