TF-SUN was later similary “stolen” from an Italian airport authorities in Milan a year or so later after some shaky operation went belly up. I was not there so I´m a bit short on acctuals. Anyway, after that incident the aircraft became TF-ELQ

Ah… so I’ve flown on a ‘stolen’ aircraft then…;)

Has a bankrupt airliner ever been stolen in the UK ???

Hehehehe, Yes, in a way!! I think it was in 2002 when Islandsflug was flying for an outfit called Flight Directors out of MAN. We had one aircraft on the contract (TF-SUN). One evening coming back from Malaga (IIRC), we heard that the Flight Directors would not survive sunrise the day after, and the aircraft was to be impounded due to airport fees. The aircraft was fuelled up, the mechanics threw all the spare parts in the stores into the rear hold in record time. The crews were all rounded up from the hotel and off we went on an Icebird call sign landing at Reykjavik airport in the middle of the night!! In a way we “stole” the aircraft from the airport authority:eek:

Well after looking on my old PC it looks likes i’ve actually got a few more GSM flights … not really good but thought i’d share all the same.

It’s a very melancholic shot Neil. Tractors deployed at GLA too, could someone explain to me why this somewhat ’embarrasing’ practice is still applied ? Has a bankrupt airliner ever been stolen in the UK ???

I think (although don’t quote me on it) it’s more to do with the airline oweing the airport money for handling, etc, so it’s a case of you’re not getting your plane back until you pay up!

Only ever shot a few GSM aircraft, but flew with them about 5 years ago on one of their 737-600s from London to Edinburgh. Quite honestly the best low fares airline I’ve ever flown with, and it’s a real shame to see them go!

It makes me worry a little bit. They were always very honest. The fares were low but reasonable, and (when i flew with them 5 years ago) the service was excellent.

Anyway, here’s my contribution… nothing new to add i’m afraid 🙁

Great photos…perhaps i should do a belated Ansett montage

Go on Steve you know you want to. I remember the “good Old days when you could see the ANSETT livery around.
Well done to those who managed to capture the moment of touchdown with the plume of tyre smoke behind. The early morning shot is nice in a sad way.

One I overlooked last time. This one from 2007 G-CDEG arriving at Faro, Portugal in 2007. More if you wish.

Don’t know about airliners, but I think a couple of light planes were ‘spirited away’ last year in the Midlands after some maintenance or ownership dispute.;)
