Tried the various search facilities, but…

…even Google searching the forum didn’t come up trumps.

Did any former Iraqi (former Sea and new-build) Furies make it out after the invasion? I understand that when Tallichet recovered his 36 there were five left behind, and one two-seater was filmed being hit by a bomb which, if the numbers are correct, means that there was a chance of four more surviving.
If I recall there was one which was brought back by the Army, who (I was told) later became embarrassed by its presence but were anymore brought out?

Were any other vintage airframes discovered? What else was brought out, for trials and whatever?

I understand that it is currently in the same warehouse as the Lost Ark of the Covenant, the RAF Museum’s Egyptian Kittyhawk, the Avro Canada Arrow secretly spirited away to Britain when the programme was cancelled, and the various containers of Mosquito spares, Vietnamese Skyraiders and R-3350s, and a Lewis gun, allegedly the property of an Antipodean former forum member.

You are RAF, I take it?
I was specifically told ‘Army’, by an army guy with more muscles than brains (it was at an ‘ironman’ event) but hw did recognise that it had a ‘huge’ engine on the front and the wings were made to come off rather than snap(!). It was he who said it was regarded as an embarrassment and gave me the impression that it was being hidden away in the hope that it would be forgotten about…

SNAFU,
I saw a number of classic types whilst flying around looking for WMDs in 2003. Shaiba airfield had abandoned T6 and Chipmunk remains, not to mention Furies. An intact two seater was “liberated” by my Sqn and carefully broken down for transit to the UK as a “war prize”. As always, stuff got in the way and it was last known of in an ISO container at Basrah….that’s probably your “army” airframe. A real shame. We just wanted the fury, couldn’t be bothered with yet another 10 foot Saddam statue…..PM me for a photo – I’m not the copyright holder so I won’t post here….
