Tripod advice wanted

Can anyone help me or advise me?, As I have drawn a black so far.
I am looking for a travel style tripod that is both light weight and small enough(when not extended) to fit in a ruck sack.

I have a canon 450D DSLR so it need to be able to hold that safely, The cheap ones look dangerous and nothing else I have seen is suitable.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Museums don’t usually allow tri or monopods in do they?

I’ve never had problems at Duxford or RAFM. Middle Wallop doesn’t allow them nor does the Science Museum. Therefore I don’t go to these venues!

I have rucksack sized tripod, but when fully extended it is useless. I also have a full size one of course.
DO NOT buy the Jessops own brand stuff. The Tilt head stops at about 88 degrees, not 90. That will be very very annoying if you want to flick it up to portrait.
Gorilla and a bean bag. And a Mono. You can fasten the monopod to something using the legs of the Gorilla LoL. Saves changing it.

Not a bad idea, What situations have you used the monopod in?.

Excepting in museums, all the time I’m doing static shots. Taking off for aerial shots. A very useful device.

Think a Monopod would not suit in this case, and I do have a paranoia that I would drop the camera at some point with one of them.

Thanks for the advice guys, I have found that a friend has a gorrila pod and is willing to let me try before I go out and spend on one.

I am looking at something so when go to cities I can do better night shots, I did OK in Paris but really want one to improve such shots and my current tripod too heavy to go around with.

I would doubt if you would get a ‘full size’ tripod that will go into a backpack. I have a lightweight Velbron CX480 which I use occasionally (for most applications it’s too light) but even it won’t go in a backpack.

Ever thought of a monopod? A bean bag can also be useful

unsure of an actual tripod , but have you thaught of a gorrila pod

it has possibillities of being better for your needs .

as they can not only be set up like a normal tripod ( all be it shorter )

but they can also be used in many other ways ( such as wrapping round objects )

plus they don’t take up much space !!

make sure you buy the version for dslr’s
