Trouble for photographers at airports

My copy of the April issue of Aviation News arrived today, with this shocking news for aviation enthusiasts in France! Apparently you can get fined for taking photos at Charles de Gaulle and other French airports. This is outrageous!

Heard stories yesterday of spotting at London City, guy was told not to take photos but was ok to stand there with Binos.

They seem pretty heavy against spotters there….i was parked in a parking bay and was approached within 2 minutes of arriving, and made to leave(and STILL had to pay!!!) for anyone going there, i now go beyond the car park, to the catering companies area, there is a small car park there, the catering guys don’t seem to mind, and as it’s not on the car park property the security don’t bother with you, and is excellent for shooting/spotting,

Re Gatwick

I did my duty by telling a Police Lady (nice) the Gates at Lowfield Heath where pushed open but still locked. (hopefully scored some points)

Thanks for that, Phil. Passed that pub, many times, never thought to do the unheard of activity of walking hehe. Cheers.

Being a regular at gla i have never been stoped, moved on,asked what i was doing by the airport security , police, a few times i have been there they have stopped and spoken to me infact now everytime i am there they acknowledge me with a wave, pump of the horn, or nod of the head, and long may thatrelationship with them continue. i think that they see us as extra pairs of eye’s when they are not around this can only be good for our hobby.

Hey Phil.
Whereabouts is there at LGW for shooting?? stopped on a layby at the end of the runway once, lasted about 40 secs before plod moved me on, and found a service road runs alongside the runway, but, didnt think i’d get much joy there… BTW we have a bit of an understanding still ongoing with the GLA cops/security. which has even led to the police helping to approve the BAA building a new spotters mound coming soon here.

Either on foot from the terminal when 26L is in operation, or where you were at the threshold of 8R. However if you want to take photos from the 8R layby DO NOT park there!! – Instead park outside the pub parallel to the runways and walk – if you’re on foot they’re not bothered.

Hope attached map is of use:

I think that scheme’s still in place at some airports – e.g. at Gatwick the signs are well displayed to ask spotters to report anything. And last time I was there the security guy parked up, said hello, checked the padlock and drove off.

This is interesting but also quite sad. Whatever happened to the scheme where “spotters” were asked to be on the look-out for suspicious activities.
