Trouping of The Colors / Spitfire FlyPast!

Wondering if the Trouping of The Colors date is for Saturday June 12th, any news on this, what time does it start? Also is their any dates set for any apperance by the BOB RAF Flight over London, or do they fly over London on her birthday? Will be in Paris on that day and have always wanted to see this military parade in person down the Mall. Thanks for any information given!

Trooping the Colour will take place this year on Saturday, 12 June at 11.00a.m. The Colour will be trooped by 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards.

Thanks to all who sent in info on this, got this off the Royal page as suggested by one of our fine members Lord Kenley. I have several tapes of this event ,but would love to see it in person. A most impressive ceremony to this Yank. I am heading over on Monday for the D-Day celebrations to pay my respects to all those who fought and served in this epic struggle. God Bless those men &women who served and fought in the British and Commonwealth forces in WWII. Hope I might be lucky enough to see some real Spitfires flying over the beaches during my time there. A humble BlueNoser352 says thanks to all who offered information here. Will be searching the skies for BlueNose P-51’s !

I live right in central london, and will always remember being woken up one morning by a spitfire ‘messing about’ in the sky. the perfect way to wake up it has to be said.

Von Perthes’s mention of the RNHF has stirred another grey cell into action (must be careful, not very many of these left now!). I seem to recall that the RNHF were refused permission to fly the two Swordfish along the Thames a few years ago, which was when the ‘no singles’ rule was publicised. Can anyone confirm this, or am I finally going completely mad…?

Two spitfires flew with the Lancaster down the Mall over the coffin of HM The Queen Mother after her funeral at Westminster Abbey. For details of Trooping the Colour try www.royal.gov.uk (sorry not sure how to post a link yet)

I’ve got a vague recollection that single engined piston aircraft are banned from flying over London

So are aerobatics, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen – I’ve seen a helicopter doing a stall turn (chandelle?) over the west end before now! Maybe s/he got away with it by calling it some other kind of turn. Or else nobody else recognised it for what it was.

Bluenoser, I’m not entirely sure about this, so I could be wrong, but… I’ve got a vague recollection that single engined piston aircraft are banned from flying over London, so the only likely BBMF participation would be either the Dakota or the Lancaster. Still both well worth seeing, but alas, no Spitfires or Hurricanes. 🙁

This is quite rare and but singletons have flown over London on very special occasions and I believe are vectored up/down the Thames to the maximum.

On the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain – 15th September 1990, the complete flight flew up The Mall comprising five Spitfires and two Hurricanes.

Fluffy – any comment?

I believe that its just ‘pointy noisy things’ plus transports…

VC10 with 2 X Jag
TriStar with 2 X Torn GR4
E3 with 2 X Torn F3
Nimrod
C17 leading the formation… for anyone up this way, they are practising on Weds 9th June and should be over Waddo at around 15.00L.. same time 10/11th if weather not good..

looking at the BBMF prog that I’ve got they’re pretty busy that weekend elsewhere.

I’ve been having a Google, but can’t find anything as to the content of the flypast after the ToTC ceremony. Too early I think, but keep an eye on this page of the MoD website. http://www.raf.mod.uk/news/as_index.html I’ve looked at the Red Arrows & BBMF display dates but can’t see any mention of their participation. Might also be worth keeping an eye out for the NOTAM re the flypast.

Re the banning of single-engined aircraft from flying over central London, AFAIK this does not apply to historic aircraft flown by the military, i.e. BBMF, or RNHF.

Geoff.

Thanks for the info on this, will try the British Tourist Authority in NYC, they will know for sure. I heard here in the states that the FAA ( Federal Aviation Adminstration) may have new rules on vintage Warbirds (single engine aircraft) with jump seats. Some sort of new rules, this from a warbird owner and pilot. If I hear anything offical I will pass it own. What no Spits over the city of London????? What would Sir Douglas say about this?

Hey, if you are in Paris visit the Musee de l’Air. The pre-WW1 and WW1 stuff in the old Terminal building should be seen by everyone even slightly interested in aviation.

single engined piston aircraft are banned from flying over London(

Generally true for some time but I’m sure that there have been Spitfire and Hurricane flypasts since that rule was introduced.
On another topic, I came across a Notam for 1st June about a ‘display and stores drop’ by a Spitfire near Storrington, West Sussex. Anyone know what’s being dropped?
