Trying to trace RAF Relative

I am posting this on behalf of my brother.

‘A friend of mine is doing reseach on her family tree.

She is asking if anyone might know how she can obtain information on a relative that was in the RAF around the time the RAF was formed in 1918.

If anyone knows of a website or somewhere where these records might be archived, i would like to pass it on to her.

Thanx in advanced for your help.

Cheers Trev.’

Innesworth charge a £25 search fee

Ian, it’s now £30.

Service records for RAF Officer’s that served prior to 1922 and Airmen that served prior to 1924 are held at Kew.

Moggy.

I think it’s free to the closest surviving next of kin if it’s a widow or son or daughter. Believe it’s only World War Two and after but may be wrong about that. First World War records that survived are on microfilm at Kew.

Anyone know how far the records held at RAF Innsworth go back?

They provide colour photocopies of RAF service records to the closest surviving next of kin for a modest fee.

National Archives at Kew.

There is an online search facility for obtaining the Medal Index card for a fee of £3.50p. Snapper would be a good person to talk to about this, he knows his way around.

Hope this helps,
