Details have just been uploaded to the NAM Website about proposals for an anniversary event at Newark this September, which opens with the following background:
“Aviation enthusiasts may know Frank Millar, who owns the Canberra PR9 cockpit that is displayed at the museum. Frank has suggested that the museum looks to arrange an anniversary event at the museum on Saturday 27th September 2014, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the first flight of that iconic British aircraft the British Aircraft Corporation TSR2, which took place on 27th September 1964.
Based around a nominal working title of ‘Tribute to the TSR2 Day’ the museum hosted event would build on the airframe sections of the TSR2 that are already displayed at the museum; digitised extracts from the Roland Beamont interviews that the museum recorded shortly before his death; visiting author / book signing; model display / competition; aviation artists; and hopefully visiting displays of artefacts held by various individuals and collections around the UK.”
Details about how to register you interest in displaying at the proposed event can be found in here!
I will also pass on feedback from here. 🙂

Some photographs from the TSR2 event on 27th September can be found in here!

As well as being a great day the Tribute to the TSR2 event has stimulated the influx of some fresh material, which is currently being reviewed by the museum.
Amongst this feedback was the following YouTube clip, which so far has very few views – it has been uploaded from some original cine film footage of the TSR2 simulator; enjoy!

Thank you for that support – fingers crossed that it encourages a few more attendees.
The website listing for participants has just been updated due to a last minute cancellation, due to over-running work commitments.
It still looks set for a great day tomorrow! :eagerness:

We’ve added a few TSR2 photos to the Aeroplane Icons Twitter and Facebook page 🙂

That’s a good question – but I am unable to give you an honest answer.
A week ago I would have said one thing and as I type this I’m no longer quite so sure.
I’ll speak with you tomorrow and explain that cryptic response.

How long is the cockpit staying for?

There are a few minor updates to report as the Tribute to the TSR2 Day approaches, they can be found in here!.
The main news is that a Risk Assessment has been completed on the cockpit section and there will be public viewing opportunities for the rear cockpit – however please note that at the time of typing the event team has not been able to open front canopy.
I would also like to reassure people that no lecture tickets have been sold in advance; they will only be on sale on Saturday inside the museum. If the gentleman who has called the museum today indicating that he plans to get there for 8am to get a seat is reading this, please note that the museum will not be open at that time.
Looking set for a great day tomorrow! :eagerness:

The synopsis of Damien Burke’s TSR2 lecture has now been added to the museum website! 🙂

WADR this was covered in #53 by “TSR2 book stocks are not particularly high at present although the Shop Manager is working with her suppliers to get stocks in – no promises though.”

Might we suggest acquiring some copies of (Key Publishing’s) Aeroplane Icons TSR2 special

TSR2 book stocks are not particularly high at present although the Shop Manager is working with her suppliers to get stocks in – no promises though. I should be having further dialogue with Damien Burke about his lecture and I will ask whether he will be bringing any copies of his book.
As a slight aside next weekend it is the National Hamfest event on the Showground, which normally brings a few ‘radio –hams’ over to the museum!

Looking forward to this event, should be a good one! Any good TSR publications for sale in the shop as well?

I’m checking my facts first! 😉
By: WH904 - 21st September 2014 at 12:34
Presumably it fails to answer some other questions… 😉

As has become the norm in the last few days before an event an “At A Glance” news item has been added to the NAM website for the Tribute to the TSR2 Day!
It helps to answer some of the typical questions raised during most telephone enquiries for the event.

Late last night I received confirmation that Damien Burke is able to give his TSR2 lecture next weekend as part of the event.

As mentioned elsewhere the TSR2 cockpit is now inside Hangar 2 and some photos can be found in here that show the items being set-up in Hangar 2 for the event on September 27th!

An updated list of the TSR2 related display items / participants for the event has been added to the NAM news page.
The Canberra T19 was also repositioned slightly today to help with the various airframe / cockpit moves that are currently taking place at NAM.

Two of the albums on this page of the NAM website feature fresh photographs related to the TSR2 event.
One shows some of the cockpit moves that were completed yesterday and the other shows a TSR2 painting that has been donated to NAM and will be auctioned at the event to raise funds for Project Panini!

The Brooklands Museum’s TSR2 cockpit section arrived safely this afternoon; as ever details are on the NAM news page and there are a couple of photographs in an album on this page of the website! :eagerness:
An updated photograph of the internal progress on the Ashton has also been added to the Restoration & Behind The Scenes album on the gallery page.
Thanks for the update GOKONE, NAM is extremely grateful to everyone that is supporting and providing exhibits / displays for the event!
