A few pics from DX today showing progress on TSR2’s paint job.
She doesn’t look right without her massive fin.
All the hard graft to strip back the old paint has paid off and enabled a superb finish.
Note the trapeze artist on top.

CASUAL VIEWERS – DO CHECK OUT JEEPMANS LINKS – THEY ARE SUPERB 😀 😀[U]
Well done Jeepman!

Totally agree, thanks for the tip Ben! Here’s a thought though. I reckon that given the fact that ‘two pairs of eyes are better than one’ and the fact that later radar and hud made sitting in the dark in the back obsolete, TSR2 would probably have gained a proper canopy for the back seater rather than a hell-hole. Another challenge for Jeepman?

Nice. Looks like they’re doing a superb job, I hope the USAF guys do half this good when they refinish the YF-23.

‘TSR II to the skip’ how novel. Wouldnt like her to join that well known V bomber in the near future.
By: KZ321 - 2nd August 2005 at 23:13
Mike,
she may only be 70% complete but everyone who i know who has worked on her has enjoyed the project. It has been completed to a near new standard and alot of effort has been spent to save this piece of History by preserving original parts.
Im very glad that I got the opportunity to work on such a unique airframe. Once again bravo IWM.

Not really stripped out, most of the bits were never put in to take out in the first place.
XR220 at Cosford was fully airworthy and about to fly when the axe fell. I understand it’s been nobbled since, apart from the engines not being refitted, wiring looms were cut just in case anybody had a cunning plan.

They’ve done a hell of a job on her. Congratulations Mr King and team you’ve done the IWM proud.

Mate of mine built an R/C TSR 2. Looks great in the air. Couldnt persuade him to do a camo job on it unfortunately.

I saw the TSR-2 at RAF Henlow in 1966 – the finish was not completely flat but had a slight sheen, sort of egg-shell – less glossy than satin but more of a sheen than mat. My Box-camera photos are long-lost but I remember it well – I walked under it… a big aeroplane, at the same site and time as the Battle-of-Britain Ju87 and Hurricanes were being recorded for the famous film (sound of engines mostly), only a couple of hundred yards away… think I will cry now…

Fab stuff…..thought not sure about how relevent the tactical transport 60s “desert” scheme is, even in fantasy terms!!!
By: TEXANTOMCAT - 2nd August 2005 at 17:00
Gobsmackingly brilliant – love the fantasy Luftwaffe schemes and this is even better as its almost factual….if you see what i mean.
I dont do jets as a rule but boy shes a doozy….
Well done to good old Airfix for finally getting with the current modelling market rather than resting on her laurels and flogging that shocking Blenheim kit for £7.99 and a 35 year old Lanc for £20!
Ace, made my day Jeepman 😀
