The Avherald was a bit clearer with the how and what of the story

http://www.avherald.com/h?article=430a1d01&opt=0

conclusion was that the plane could not take off from this location again.
Seeing the rate at which Tu154’s (also M’s) are being chopped up at the moment I would be surprised if they made the effort to get it flying again.

this was the plane in happier days

Didn’t quite land in a forest, the ‘tushka’ landed on a disused airfield and overshot the edge of the runway into the forest. Photos:

i guess it won’t be taking off again in hurry, what sort of length does a TU154 need for a take off run.
would have love to have flown one of these on a package holiday but looks like i have missed out now as Balkan have retired theirs, did do a TU-134A of Aviogenex in 1972 though

I’d love to see photos of the scene! Wow, astonishing luck.

What a story and what airmanship! Also says a lot for the integrity and robustness of the Tu154.
