Tui order 65 Boeings and Rebrand

Tui have announced that they’re ordering 65 new Boeing aircraft for fleet replacement, and will rebrand all its airlines into a single brand, TuiFly, with Thomson being integrated in 2008, order details here, but not much…

TUI Group orders 65 Boeings for fleet replacement
David Kaminski-Morrow, London (15Dec06, 10:27 GMT, 139 words)

German tour giant TUI Group has disclosed it has ordered 65 aircraft from Boeing in a fleet-replacement deal valued at €2 billion ($2.6 billion).

Details of the order, revealed by TUI today as it set out plans to restructure its business activities, have yet to become clear. But the tour operator says the aircraft will be delivered from 2010.

It states that the aircraft would be used for replacement rather than expansion, with no overall increase in capacity, adding: “The new aircraft will replace leased aircraft currently operated in all source markets.

“Most of the aircraft will be financed through off-balance financing scheme.”

TUI Group includes seven in-house carriers: Hapagfly, Hapag-Lloyd Express, Thomsonfly, TUIfly Nordic, Arkefly, Corsair and Jetair. These carriers operate a combined fleet of more than 120 aircraft, more than half of which are Boeing 737 models.

AFAIK they choose the yellow color because they have noticed that the blue aircraft was hard to spot on pictures in the TUI catalog showing the aircraft mostly in a clear blue sky.

I have heard companies come up with some stupid reasons to rebrand, but this one has got to be the best!

The name is awfull. Very uninspired and bland.

The Yellow livery certainly is quite cheerfull, however, that blandness of the name and its application on the fuselage suck rotten eggs, to be brutally honest.

The yellow IMO isnt so bad, but the name is downright awful. I still think Britannia was the best name and livery for a UK charter airline. How many english people know the name TUI compared to Thomson and Britannia?

As much as I lament the great ‘Britannia’ brand, I actually prefer the thought of an integrated ‘Tui-Fly’ name to that of all the half made over airlines it took over.

As for the colour scheme, why not do a series of bright and vibrant colours for each airline, with the Tui-Fly text over the top… Thomson could be blue, Hapag, yellow… Other’s could be green, orange, salmon pink etc etc…

It would certainly be nice to see some colourful liveries in the skies again.

The majority will apparently be B737srs a/c. There is a clause which states that they do not have to specify actual a/c type/version until 6mths prior to proposed delivery.

Would be good to know if really 787s are included.

According to a friend at TUI, they are ordering 738, 739’s and 772’s.

I would doubt that this order would contain any 777s. I do hope for the 787 and the 737-900ER though.
It is weird that neither TUI or Boeing have released yet what kind of arcraft have been orderd.

When Thomsonfly change to TUIfly (apparently next Summer 2007), will they be going Yellow? or will they just re-brand but keep the TUI blue?

Although I actually prefer the Yellow to the rather strange shades of Blue that they have been using it does look as though they are preparing to merge brands with DHL.

On a more serious note I do think what has happened to the once proud Britannia Airways at the hands of TUI is nothing short of a disaster for UK aviation and holiday travel.

I wonder if people in the countries served by the other TUI airlines feel the same.

The Day TUI order 777s is the day I’m called Meier and a squadron of pigs fly past my window in V formation.

I cant see how 772’s would fit in especially in the way tui airlines structure their buisness. I think 787s or maybe more 767s would be more suitable.

I suppose the new colour may be to convey the thought of the airline taking it’s passengers away to sunny destinations. Either that or they threw a dart at a colour chart on the wall!

And perhaps the sad loss of jobs within the groups is to cover the cost of this giant rebranding (I know this isn’t really the case, but sarcasm is hard to convey through text sometimes ;))

I think the loss of the Thomsonfly name was inevitable. The British arm of the tui group has had an incredible number of rebrands in recent years, and this will just be another!
