The airfield is being operated as per the planning permission granted back in 1993.
80 movements per day Monday to Friday.
60 movements per day Saturday & Sunday.
Of course one movement is a take off or landing
Aircraft are restricted to approved types which does not include Cessna 182, Piper PA.32, Microlights or helicopters.
If you want to go ring before you set off… (its always been PPR but better to be aproved before you go than turned away in mid air surely)
The VAC held their last meeting of the year there on the 30th October. The air was that of frustration, anger and deep sadness. The airfield is watched and all movements are logged by people (including council).
There is an appeal hearing due and those who wrote before should have been notified.
This I fear is not good… It is going to hit the businesses of those who operate TW and from TW…

hi,guys,
you may have noticed that ArmWaver has been a little quiet of late…..
FEAR NOT,I can report that he is alive and well and settling into his new job at RAF Lakenheath quite nicely…last spoke to him Monday evening when he acted as quiz-master for Oxfordshire Aviation Group’s annual Xmas Quiz.
The reason we’ve not heard from him here is that he is currently without internet access….he has asked me to act as go-between re-Turweston and Vintage Aircraft Club matters so if you have any queries keep posting them and I will get in touch with Arm Waver for you
happy landings

There have been many but it’s all under appeal at the moment so best leave it to those in the positions of power to discuss for now…

That’s a pity. might be worth a quiet word though to see what your planners think. I’m sure there are days when you don’t get through 80 movements.

Ozplane – sadly it won’t work like that here – if it was the case I doubt there had been as much hassle but who knows…
All we can doo is sit and patiently wait the outcome now the letters have been written.

When our strip ran into similar problems the planner thought it might be possible to add in the slots missed on a day like today which had low cloud and no viz and therefore no movements. Could that help at Turweston?

Those restrictions have caused trouble for some time. It does make things more complicated at Turweston. I am sad to see that the operations still are running so difficult there. 🙁 It isn’t pleasant if you have to turn people away.

It’s just day to day that is affected by these rules.
Under the planning permission allowed for the airfield the British Grand Prix has been exempted and they can operate effectively unrestricted…
This actually went to high court IIRC and was won.
The airborne visitors seem to be falling off every year for the Grand Prix anyway…

The visitor wouldn’t be allowed in… They will always run to less rather than spot on or just over…
We heard the tower turn some people away at the VAC do just to preserve the total. At least one was turned away as it was a microlight – very nicely exchanged between the tower and the pilot and for us on the ground upsetting that people should be turned away…

Turweston is the fixed wing airfield for Silverstone isn’t it? Where will all their traffic go? It looks as if the Grand Prix is going ahead next year, if Ferrari agree.

“It is going to hit the business of those who operate TW and from TW”
There-in lies the narrow-minded selfishness of NIMBY’s everywhere….will they feel better if these businesses do cease trading and their employees make frequent visits to Brackley/Banbury/Towcester Job Centres….not forgetting the businesses indirectly affeced by any such closure…local service stations, pubs etc, plus those businesses who act as suppliers to TW based firms
Is it worth so much financial hardship, stress and upset for the sake of one or two?????
