Sorry – some guy found five Avengers on the sea bed off Florida (12 years ago?) and thought that they might be Flight 19…
When they went back they found that the wrecks were missing their tailplanes, etc, but finally the last one (dramatic, huh?) had its fin laying alongside and they got the Bu No from it; crashed in 1943. Another pair probably suffered a mid-air collision, and it turned out that all the wrecks came down close to each other totally independantly.
Still not heard of this before, though…

Amazing that they were seperate accidents in the same area. I thought that they would turn out to be aircraft dumped or washed overboad from a ship together. It seems that ‘Flight 19’ is a good deal further of the US coast. Did the crash investigator say around 230 miles?
