There is a very interesting interview with the CAA on Flightline UK, covering their view on the Vulcan and the TFC situation from their perspective. Just go to the news section and scroll down to the heading “Right to reply – the CAA responds”

Does anyone know how the restoration is going in the us ? must be fairly advanced by now also does anyone know how TFC are getting along with the CAA audit ?

In answer to your first question – it looked finished and ready to tow out and fly in the last pictures I saw of it (probably a month or so ago).

Before I close this thread, I want to give you some reasons for my doing so.

Inane questions such as this do no-one any credit. We are fortunate indeed that a wealthy man is able to share his passion with us in some way. That he chooses to buy and sell his own aircraft is entirely his business. We do no more than look into a shop window.

The likes of Beau VI (who I do know on a personal level) bring a great deal to the board, and we are fortunate that they choose to post on here, however infrequently. If they choose not to post, then we are all the poorer for it.

I have been in the business for 16 years, and will no longer make predictions on how long things will take. I’m always wrong, even with a wealth of knowledge behind me. So, please stop asking how long project ‘x’ will take – the answer is ALWAYS ‘when it is ready’. There are so many variables that it is difficult in the extreme to make accurate predictions.

If you are going to post on these subjects, please dont just make it up. IF the owner chooses to sell an aeroplane, its his business. Dont just make it up.

Thread closed.

“Provence Fighter Sales”? A new operation in Southern France? It really serves no purpose to witter on about whether/when Twilight Tear will be sold. Irrespective of how attached any of us are to this lovely aeroplane it’s entirely up to her owner.

Yes, and you need to get out more.

Kind regards, JJ.

[QUOTE=markstringer;1199994]Are you suggesting that they are going to sell it JJ?[/QUOTE,

Hi markstringer,

Well there was the small case of giving a lot of tender loving care then parting
with the P-51B an aircraft which most of us who watch the TFC with much pleasure, thought we would be watching it for many years to come, but that
did not last long. I hope the TT stays with us for many years to come but
at the right time and price anything could happen.
I think we all forget sometimes that although we go down to Duxford to see
these great restored aircraft, at the end of the day the owners can do what
they like with their kit we have no say in it, but we I think have a right to be
down hearted though when things move on.
And TFC aircraft move on like two hurricanes is it ? 2 Mustangs ? and others
but again the buck stops with the owner. All I am saying is I and others would
not get to close to it just in case it moves on.

Regards JJ.

Straight from the Horses mouth i would say JJ.

I thought as much, why restore a plane to wartime config then sell it? Surely thats just throwing money away.

Hi the Bump, I will be surprised if its back by this Autumn. They are having
a good look at the wings or so I heard, because they have never been looked at in detail. If they don’t find anything bad my guess is it will be back around
September. Also keep your eye on provence fighter sales at the same time.

JJ.

Its all been looked at in detail.

By TFC and the CAA.

Thats how it got it’s permit to fly in the UK.

As for keep an eye on provence fighter sales just what are you trying to say?

JJ.

C’mon, get real. What do you think we do every year, sit around looking at the forum. The reason she is at Chino is because we do look at the aircraft in detail.
You may recall “Princess Elizabeth” had a major overhaul, as did the Bearcat, both carried out at Duxford. The same is happening to the Spitfire XVIII which had been in storage for many years. The P-47G fuselage is at Chino having a deep overhaul with the wings in Australia having new spars fitted. All of this because we do look in detail.

The last time “Twighlight Tear” was totally stripped down was in the 80’s so she is receiving a little TLC. If you cast your eyes over TFC’s web page you will see a statement made when the aircraft arrived, “The long term plan is to carry out an in depth restoration to return her to wartime configuration”. That is what is happening and includes fitment of an original fuselage fuel tank, an overhaulled engine and what other original equipment we can find.

She drew the crowds and positive comments at the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends for how she looked. We will not be bringing out the “Brasso” on her return.

Hi all, and Happy New Year
When is P-51 ‘Twilight Tear’ due back from the US after the rebuild?
Answers like ‘when its ready’ will be rejected:p …….rough estimates welcomed.
