I saw what looked like a Twin Otter with an orange tail over Nailsworth last Wednesday possibly heading for Bristol airport. Any ideas on identity anyone please?

Where ever you encounter them they seldom seem to be idle unless they are in maintenance. Real workhorses.

My only previous experience of Twin Otters was to do with those of Talair in PNG during the 1970s. See:

What I saw last week looked very like that one (from a distance) which is why I thought of Twin Otter. However it was most likely to have been Islander G-BCEN. Thanks everyone,
Jim

It hasn’t always. For about three years it was conducted at Kidlington, after that it transferred to Marshall’s of Cambridge.

A type that I’m fond of and here’s one of the Survey aircraft @ Duxford pictured in this thread at the end of April 2014 http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?128152-Duxford-Diary-2014&p=2134522#post2134522 🙂

The weekend before one of the British Antarctic Survey Twotters was hangared at Staverton, these are all red. The spend the summer in the UK and the winter in the Antarctic when they have their summer.
Surprised that one of the Twotters was in the UK as winter maintenance has always been conducted by Rocky Mountain Aircraft of Alberta Canada.

If BAS haven’t changed their colour scheme the top surfaces of the aircraft were black to make them easier to find if they go down in the snow.

Could have been the Islander, Tony as I’m pretty sure it wasn’t all-over red. It was quite a distance away when I spotted it but first thought was Twin Otter.
