Hiya

if i wanted to hire a pilot for a small corporation that is looking at buying a Cessna 421 or similar, how much would I have to pay him?

Thanks

No disrespect but frankly I don’t think it would appeal to anyone with the experience levels you would like. There are hundreds of zero experience frozen ATPL’s that will bite your hand off for their big start for next to nothing but they’ll be off in 6-12 months, lured by a 2 crew turboprop or regional jet. Those with experience are generally in long term employment with good prospects, lifestyle protected by scheduling agreements and looking forward to benefitting from adequate pension packages. What you are offering gives the promise of hours that won’t suit a family man, unsupported operation, etc but worst of all these jobs have a habit of dissappearing at the owners whim a year or so down the line. I for one wouldn’t give up my warm and cosy 4 engined jet job for that risk… unless you paid me a figure I could retire on if it went pear-shaped a year down the line. I’m sorry if this sounds a bit snotty, it’s not meant that way, it’s just that anyone in an airline position is likely to see it with those eyes.

Make sure you target the right aircraft for the route. Average payload (passengers + bags) over what distance? In this day and age you might be better off with an older turboprop bought at a lower price and then spend some money on a sensible cockpit upgrade.

With what you save on the capital cost go out and spend decent money on a well-qualified and motivated pilot that doesn’t want to head to the airlines.

PM me if you want any more top tips

well, will be top brass, but of a smallish company. it is just that an aircraft is slowly becoming necessary.

Quite and in which case it would have to be an attractive package compared to the airlines (one again would imagine)

If I was crewing an aircraft to ferry the company’s top brass around I must admit I’d be tempted to find the most expensive pilot I could.

Not sure personally as I don’t meet the single pilot minima (but if you’d like my CV let me know!). Depends on what level of experience you are looking for. Toward the lower end say (complete guess) €30k ?

You may get a good response by asking on the Biz/GA section of PPRuNe.
