Two Skymark's 737's grounded during Golden Week

Two of Skymark’s Boeing 737-800 aircraft, the mainstay of the low-cost carrier’s fleet, were grounded during the busy Golden Week national vacation that ended yesterday.

One aircraft was in need of an engine repair or replacement, whilst the other is Skymark’s latest brand new acquisition, 737Q, which has still not received JCAB certification following its arrival from the Boeing factory.
Despite having been test flown prior on its acceptance flight in the US, prior to its ferry flight to Japan, the Japanese Civil Aviation Bureau requires all aircraft to undertake the same testing in Japan, with a JCAB Inspector onboard.

The non-availability of these two aircraft during the peak Golden Week period is estimated to have cost Skymark millions of dollars in lost revenue, as all flights ran at close to 100 percent full load factors over the national holidays.

The costs from the delayed 737Q certification can perhaps be claimed on Boeing, since they have had a lot of delays lately. This of course depends on the contract between boeing and Skymark. The 738 going tech is simply a case of **** happens.
