Tyndall Air Park severely damaged by storm

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/11/us/air-force-hurricane-michael-damage.html

Would appear that Tyndall AFB FL was severely hit by hurricane Michael. Of note is the Tyndall Air Park museum on site, which was also badly damaged. At least one of its aircraft was flipped over and destroyed (an F-15)…

But this is normal. High performance aircraft spend far longer on maintenance than in the air and you can’t just pull a frame out of deep maintenance in a few hours. It wasn’t unusual in my RAF days for a Tornado Squadron to have less than half of their aircraft on daily state, and that would usually go down during the day.

Good grief, hopefully no one was hurt but this is mad. ——-Quote ” The high-tech F-22 is notoriously finicky and not always flight-worthy. An Air Force report this year found that on average, only about 49 percent of F-22s were mission ready at any given time — the lowest rate of any fighter in the Air Force. The total value of the 22 fighters that may remain at Tyndall is about $7.5 billion.”
