Friends- I would like to take this opportunity to tell you that after six months of being off line, my web site “Type 509 Spitfires” is back! After waiting patiently for my brother to fix a few problems with his site, I have now made arrangements with a friend to host it on his site. This will also enable me to make more frequent updates. You can now find “Type509 Spitfires” at the more appropriate ULR of http://www.historicair.com/type509spitfires
Please take this opportunity to update your links and mark it in your favorites. And while you’re at it feel free to have a look at it!
Thank you to everyone who has supplied the new images. I am very greatful.
If anyone else wishes to contribute images or information please send me an email!
Thank you and welcome back.

Maybe the open cokcpit had been selected to fool people who cannot make the difference between a Spit and a Hurricane.

I can’t recall if MT818/G-AIDN has flown for a while since being in Jack Erikson’s care. Any in-flight ones?

It was a unofficial field modification carried out in Africa and Italy also I believe to give people air experience .

Mr 12. If I didn’t know better I would have sworn it to be April 1st.
Not the devil’s incarnation but damned close.
Ditto the Stieglitz comment. Why?

A strange (open cocpit) but interesting modification. I’ve never seen this before. For what reason did they do that?

Type 509 back.
Neil,
Here are a couple of shots you can add to your site.
Spitfire Mk IX RR232, mocked up to investigate the ‘packaging space’ of the North African Mk V ES127.
