U.S.A Second Amendment re-think

In view of what has happened to these, and indeed other School children, and many other incidents that have taken place, involving the use of Shotguns and Section 1 Firearms.do you think that any individual should be allowed to own seemingly as many weapons as they like?.in the U.S.A.
Personaly, I think the 2nd should be fine tuned, to allow anyone to own the minimum of weapons they REALY need, And all weapons be kept in a secure place within the owners property, or at a gun club, where they are secure.
Should they adopt the same rules and regs as we have here in the U.K.
The other week, I was watching a U.S.A. program where a family business purchased and sold, also traded weapons, and one chap brought to them a pristine GATLING gun he wanted to sell, need I say more?.
What are members views on gun ownership in the States?.

Jim.

If you look at the stats, there really has been no increase in the number of shootings like this since 1947 or so. But it really does amuse me that libs like yourselves cant see the reason for something that another country does, so you just pour out your snide superiority. The one thing that truly pleases me is the knowledge that there is not one thing you can do to change the situation.:D

So I guess the consensus over the pond is “Don’t interfere, there’s no problem really, and these awful bloody massacres are just an accepted part of American life” ?

What can I say Lincoln. Your mind is made up and nothing is going to change it. You seem to like the way you live and would like to impose that on others. I can tell you this…..one of the reasons that I have “several” firearms, is because people like you think I shouldnt have them.:):D so there. Am I drunk right now? I AM a lttle buzzed, thankyou, because its Christmas and the wife is out with her demo……I mean sister.

And there we have it, from a man who admits having several firearms, who at the time of posting freely, he is, quote “A little Buzzed” which I take it to mean,*****d.
If you care to trawl back through my Posts/threads,WAY before this Post was started, you will see, that I stated I was shot with a 9mm handgun, in my L.H. side, and later on during my service, and also stabbed in my L.H. side.
Made me have to stay in Hospital a few days, and I felt terrible, when I woke up after surgery, to see the pained look on my wifes face, my 3 kids, and one or two of the Senior Officers standing around my bedside. So yes, I am dead against anyone owning Firearms with good reason. Hold a deadly weapon, legally by all means, but use it responsibly. I don’t expect anyone to take the same stance as myself, and indeed, I ended my 30 yrs by as Firearms Officer, and also went round schools, large General Public shows, demonstrating Gun Safety. For which I received an Award from my Chief Constable for the amount of work I had put into promoting gun safety, a hell of a lot of which was in my own, unpaid time and days off.
So, I suggest young man, you go out, get shot and stabbed, and see if your views on guns are the same. And if you married and have a child/children, see the look on their faces, IF you survive.
At least I am still here to celebrate Christmas with my family, unfortunately due to recent events, many are not.
Have a Merry Christmas,

Jim.

So much for free speech…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-20838729

It is a given that the second amendment, now interpreted as the right to bear as many and as powerful arms as you can afford overules the first – the right to free speech. That bit doesn’t seem worth defending.

So sad.

None of the above should be read as suggesting we want Piers Morgan back.

Why don’t you go the whole Hog and have a 50 cal handgun each?.

Let’s just hope that the terrible slaughter, and that’s what it amounts to, with the 2 Firemen, drums a bit of common sense into Obama, but I won’t hold my breath on that one.
I must admit I am rather taken aback that the NRA seems to be doing nothing to help matters, however I am not “Over the Pond” so I cannot really comment on that question. But having stated that, I would like to know IF they are doing anything,
Still awaiting a reply to thread 154, from over the pond.

If you think .303 ammo is expensive in the States, I bought a Martini-Henry MK.2 last year. THAT stuff costs!

I was just pointing out the absurdity of people who only give a damn about deaths if they happen to people who “look like them”. We have Obumble going off about gun control while his administration has been illegally smuggling guns to the Mexican drug cartels & no one seems to give a flying fudge about it.

Puzzling why you find the shooting to death of anyone to be a source of humour.

What I am getting at, is that Mexico, has had gun ownership taken away, which was immediately replaced by the freedom to purchase knives, both killing machines in their own right, but only able to kill perhaps one or two folks at a time, with a knife.
Good Post from you by the way. 🙂

Death by firearm in Mexico makes the figures for the US pale into insignificance. Good thing they banned guns 😉

The only firearm I’ve ever craved firing, and finally got the chance to do a couple of years ago, was a Lee Enfield .303. I hit a piece of paper a few times, a bottle of water and so on. It was a fulfilled desire of using an iconic piece of machinery familiar to my grandfather and great grandfather so I enjoyed having the opportunity – but the actual shooting gave less satisfaction than the working of the bolt between rounds. Very tactile.

Found this recently, dated 1952. Now I just have to fill it, but .303 is about the most expensive ammo to buy in the US, short of .50

And mine:

Light coloured one is a ’55, last year of production & was still in the wrapper when I got it. Was out shooting it the next day.

Snapper I have known 3 local Doctors who have topped themselves all by hanging. I would have thought there are more painless ways to go. Still I would not want their job for all the tea in China listening to moaners all day long every day!

Just my early morning musing.

Just as a matter of “Possible” interest, when I attended a suicide once, and I was the Coroners Officer, I had to attend the P.M. I asked the Pathologist, what the best, least painful way to do it was, ie, suicide.
His reply, and he was serious, was to drink plenty of Whisky, go into your garage, sit in your car, and leave the engine running, with the garage door shut.
Not the sort of thing one wants to know on Christmas Eve I know, but such is life.

Simply because I was there the other day and struck by the numbers on view with a handy collection in the local newsagents window.

Since when did clay, rocks, paper, wood & steel have a pulse?

Name me one designer or inventor from the first firearms maker on who has made a gun designed specifically for shooting rocks.

Guns are made more suitable for target/clay shooting etc for people who like the precision shooting side of things nowadays, or for practice but come on, be serious, guns are first and foremost weapons, always have been and always will be. Saying they exist for some innocent reason is utter ********.

I am not anti-gun, nor pro-gun; I’m ambivalent or disinterested, not sure which. I occasionally shoot vermin though i only have an air rifle myself (it’s all I require, if I want to hunt I have access to larger things, it’s rare that I bother), target shooting has bored me since I was a kid and got tedious as hell in the infantry (except for anti-tank which was somewhat arousing).

Should people have guns? yeah, i think so. Should they have them purely for a purpose? No, i don’t think so (why does he/she need x amount? I had nine kayaks at one point, i didn’t need nine, I needed 3, which I now have, but why shouldn’t people have a selection, a collection? I know no philatelists with one stamp). Does availability increase risk of shooting? Of course. Should people kill others? Not generally. Do I actually care about events around the world involving guns? Not in the slightest, they are of no relevance in my life.

nb farmers and shotguns = suicide mentioned earlier. It’s a fact and they’re the most prone occupation for suicide I believe…second I believe is doctors, it’s the easy availability of pharmaceuticals and the knowledge of which are the best to use…

oh, my uncle was shot in a robbery abroad a few years back, he survived by the skin of his teeth. His son-in-law’s father wasn’t so lucky six months later. They just happen to live in a country (not America) with a lot of gun crime and a lot of people carrying sidearms for protection.

Ah well, just late-night garbled musings on a quiet shift while i’m bored, make of them what you will.
