I was reading the AI F-16 replacement article in the june-issue when i noticed something odd.
The price of the F-16 Block 60 is around $80 million, that’s about 3,5 times as much as a production-line F-16C/D. I know the aircraft has new avionics, engines and CFT’s, but this price just is pathetic. Why didn’t they buy the EF2000 for only $2 million dollars more, and have a better, two-engined, meteor and AMRAAM-capable Typhoon with similar range.
This is more than the price of the Super Hornet, Rafale, more in the class of the F22.
A Gripen would do fine for the UAE, for only $26 million dollar each.
I like the F-16 as a low-budget all-round fighter, not with this price.
I don’t think that UAE chose thise aicrafts themself, but they were obliged to do so, cos the USAF needs to test their new F-16’s, but can’t afford to buy them themselves.
Gee, this just is amazing.
