I’m off to sunny Spain tomorrow, here’s the schedule…
Glasgow-Gatwick on Sunday (BA2967) on a 737-400 at 2015, all 41 of us staying in the Hilton London Gatwick Hotel for a 5am Monarch flight to Malaga (ZB718) I wonder what the Monarch plane will be ?
We travel by buses to Seville where we’re staying at the dorms of the Residencia de deportistas la Cartuja, a sports college apparently ?
Coming back on Thursday, again with Monarch, Malaga-Gatwick (ZB719) at 1415 and then BA2966 back to Glasgow.
Thankfully I’m not one of the crew that drew the short straw and are flying Easyjet on return to the UK.
Looking forward to the trip and the game and posting my airport pics on here next week.
lemme attem !
😀 😀 😀 😎 😎

As far as I know they do ad-hoc charters and airlines hire them for tech cover too.

Can someone please explain EAL to me?
Are they Scheduled, Charter or Do they cover other airlines flight when they go tech? Or is it a bit of all 3?

For new year, I went to Milan. I flew from Manchester on LH and connected at FRA. It took ages. Well, right next to my LH aeroplane at Manchester was the EAL 747 with the red stripe. Guess what I saw at Malpensa 7 hours later – the same aircraft. I could have saved hours if I’d known it was making the trip and the ticket maybe would have been cheaper too!
They seem to get around a lot.

I don’t know when you saw it in Belfast but it must have been busy. This was taken the day before the game at GLA and it headed to Seville. I saw it in Malaga the day after the match
How many green stripers have EAL got ?

We had a EAL 747 at Belfast so i guess its the one with the green stripe in the photos?

Ah well, you got to spend 5 days in the Sun with Jackie Bird, what are you complaining about? 😛

I was quite happy with the Monarch service. Outbound I was too knackered to notice, but I didn’t hear any complaints from passengers or crew. We left Gatwick a little late owing to a couple of “tired” Celtic fans who fell asleep in the terminal after their bags were on.
Coming back we were all de-mob happy and in a jovial mood. The crew didn’t seem to mind this as the entire plane just about was full of BBC or BBC Scotland staff. Extra drinks were the order of the day as we regaled the cabin crew with tales of how Celtic nearly won the Uefa cup and how Porto should enter a diving team into the next Olympics.
The two crew pictured above (names forgotten) were extremely pleasant as we swapped tales of anti social shifts and irregular sleeping habits. After dumping us at Gatwick, they had one more outbound to Arrecife before knocking off for the night.
Some of our colleagues left Malaga on the Monarch flight to Luton. This was an hour late meaning they missed their Easyjet connections to Glasgow and Edinburgh. All other flights were full that evening so the producer of the programme had to charter a 60 seater to get them to GLA. I don’t know what the plane was, (it sounded like a Fokker 50 as described) but after a few grumbles from the BBC crew about having to rely on Easyjet when the rest of us got BA, they were relieved to have missed the EZY connection after watching it return to Luton with a suspected engine fire.
I gather a certain Chick Young was heard to lead the 60 strong ensemble in a karaoke contest as the chartered plane headed up into the sky towards Glasgow.
All in all a tiring but enjoyable experience, shame I never had time to see Seville’s airport and all of those charters.
My view of Seville tended to look like this for several days…

Hey Ren….
A cracking selection of photos you’ve demostrated there! Especially pleased to see some Monarch activity amongst your photos. Do you like the new livery/uniform? What did you think of the ZB onboard service? Would be interested to hear an honest opinion from you.
Glad you had a good trip for photos – hope the tummy gets better quickly!!!
Dean.

Another great selection Ren. Nice to see pics of the people who make the flights possible for a change too. I like the shot of the Malaga Terminal best.
Nice one Ren, cheers! 😀
