Few more pix from Rolla Vichy 2001, along with the Seafire was a MkIX UB424, plus a couple of Piston Provost also ex Burma. Along with a vast heap of ‘stuff’ still in ex RAF stores cardboard boxes. Outside various old C-47’s etc, very atmospheric place.

They did not come to the UK. They were acquired direct from Burma by a US syndicate and shipped to Missouri.
They where dispersed over time. One came to DX, another to NZ etc.

Thank you for the confirmation. I’ve gone and done a bit of digging and found out that it was 2002 when these Spitfires arrived at Duxford. I somehow figured that they were all Mk.IXs or similar, I never realised that there were Seafires amongst them. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them in situ at Duxford, I wasn’t a frequent visitor back then (actually, that hasn’t changed :apologetic:).

The photo of this Seafire in Burmese colours reminds me of that batch of Spitfires that was imported from Burma many years ago. I remember that quite a few of the fuselages were green and that some of them could not be identified at that point. Was this one from that batch as well?
Yes.

There have been a number of images on AA’s Facebook page in recent years.

There will be something on this Seafire in the next issue of the magazine, as part of a feature on Airframe Assemblies. I’ve not yet seen the layout, but it should include some images. 🙂

Good to keep the UK historic aviation industry busy.
Cheers

By: R4118 - 23rd November 2017 at 09:04
Is she a Griffon or Merlin variant?
By: SADSACK - 22nd November 2017 at 22:52
She will fly when the time is right. And I will enjoy!
