UK military helicopters

With the RAF getting replacements for the Sea King with the Merlin what about the rest of its helecopter fleet?

Sea King entered service in 1969 with the last one being built in 1990.

The Puma entered service about the same time (1968) and yet there doesn’t seem to be any replacements in the pipeline.

The Gazelle entered service in 1973 and is widely expected to be withdrawn from service starting in five years or so (according to Gazelle groundcrew I spoke to today) yet again no replacement in the pipeline.

What is going to happen in the (very near?) future when the Government suddenly realises the Pumas need replacing and in only a couple of years time the Gazelles too are going to need to be replaced? Will Broon (or whoever) use this as a ‘perfect’ excuse to buy more over grossly priced US hardware* or will we be left without any medium lift and utility capability?

* The Apache cost the UK Government £4.6 million each yet only cost the Isrealis £2.1 each.
