From NCL.

NCL was closed last night to clear the snow away from the Runways. Reopened at 9am on the dot and has been open non stop since! Its been snowing on and off all day up here but apart from allot of domestic delays NCL seems to operating pretty much as normal.

RYR1P LONDON LUTON

From LBA.

My guesses is a FR positioning flight, but as LBA is not yet a base why position a FR A/C from a Non Hub to Hub.

I also understand that a ****-up was made in ordering the wrong grade of runway de-icing fluid, which added greatly to the difficulties faced in maintaining even single runway operations.

If true, then this sort of mistake could, and should, have been avoided.

2. The last time it snowed this bad was tens of years ago

Last year around February it snowed really heavy although worse down south, now its alll over the country and dosnt seem to be letting up anytime soon. But if your on about consistant snow this is first for around 30 to 35 years.

I have to leap to MAPLC’s defence. They have done the best that they can given the circumstances.

1. It doesn’t snow every year
2. The last time it snowed this bad was tens of years ago
3. It’s the holiday period
4. They only have limited staff and snow clearence equipment. The poor “Snow fleet” team have been on the go for about two weeks now. They must be knackard!

LBA running pretty close to as normal as you can in this weather.

Any flight going to Southampton or anywhere down south is delayed and Air Southwest has cancelled its first morning service out of LBA down to the South-West.

All based or overnighting a/c are running out of LBA with delays expected.

Arrivals though are a different scenario. The LS224 went out delayed yesterday around 1530 nearly 7+ hours after scheduled. Diverted into Glasgow at around 0200 to 0300 this morning and coaches are expected in this morning at around 12ish. Amazingly FR at trooping on this morning. Due in 5 minutes later then expected.

That’s pretty much it for LBA at this time.

In their defence, this is the first ever time it has snowed in the UK and people have not yet had the opportunity to learn how to deal with it like many other countries have.

Oh, wait……

BBC London News just reported that flights are suspended at LGW & LTN.

Sometimes it’s hard to remember why this is a “developed” country.

When travelling to LBA, you don’t need an excuse to divert 😉

The Thomson ALC into LBA this afternoon took the decision this morning to divert into NCL. Now it appears that NCL is closed and LBA is opened, and LBA was open when he got into UK airspace! They baffle me sometimes…

I was going to say! Im pretty sure there was on only one TOM flight to ALC this morning! Looks like were all going to get some more snow in the next few hours! Ah well leads to an busy day at work!

Im Assumeing the NCL diversions are going to EDI as MME is mostly likely still closed!

Same could be said for MME, its been closed since New years Eve! KLM and Eastern flights have either been Canx or diverted up the road to NCL where things are pretty much operating as normal, few issues on new years day but they have been overcome. Little or no effort has been made to get MME’s runway clear from what i hear!

I do belive NCL is currantly closed at the moment though 2 TOM’s flights diverted and One BA Diverted im guessing to EDI!

MAN are having problems clearing stands to take new arrivals.

Aircraft have been holding, but are starting to divert – Qatar 45 (A7-AEH) is heading for BHX.

I’m sorry to say that the management at MAN haven’t exactly covered themselves with glory during this spell of bad weather.

MAN Re-opened

Weather Situation at Manchester Airport
Manchester Airport has reopened as of 1pm and arrivals have started to land at the airport. The worst of the Weather appears to have now passed and our focus now is on clearing the runway and airfield of the remaining snow.

We expect a slow departure rate as we try and deal with the backlog of flights from this morning. We encourage all passengers flying today to check with their airlines for the latest up-to-date information on their flight.
