Never been to NCL so I can’t comment, but spotting facilities at MAN and BHX are very good. Both have an interesting mix of aircraft (MAN being busier). LHR and LGW have even more diverse types and there are good vantage points around the airport, but there are no dedicated facilities for spotters within the airports and the attitude of the BAA to spotters isn’t exactly positive 🙁 . LTN is good for bizjets and there are good vantage points within walking distance of the terminal. Likewise, LCY is good for props and smaller types and the best vantage point is adjacent to the terminal.

well..dunno, with MAN you can explore the terminals using trains, bridges and buses while watching the planes out the terminal window. Go to the terraced houses to see them go over your head, go to the Pub to get shots that I manage to get and havea drink while your there. Go to the aviation viewing park, see concorde and the other aircraft, have something to eat there and look in the shop. Then you could go to the T1 car park to see all the line ups like Grey area gets and thats your day out! :p

For a long spotting day out – I’d go to MAN for sure, but for a really great day out with a bit of spotting thrown in, go to NCL. Take the Metro, like NCL RULES says, to Monument Station and then explore the town centre and then head straight on down Grey Street (next to Monument Metro) and then straight on down from Grey Street to Dean Street all the way to the River Tyne and the lovely bridges. if you get really adventurous, there’s lots of narrow streets and stairs leading to all kinds of nice places. You’ll be surprised quite how nice Newcastle is.

Can get the bus easily round to the viewing park Shamrock, every half an hour, or of course the car park roof.

Lyndon – Just the second AIH schemes im afraid, got the 320 and 321 today 🙂

Ryanair operate to T2, so you’d use the moving walkway to get to the Station (for the bus to the Viewing Park) or stay on it to the end and then use the lifts (on the left as you enter T1 from the moving walkway) to reach the viewing area on the 13th level of the T1 car-park.

Forget Gatwick , go to MAN. Gatwick has no viewing area and you are restricted to some pretty poor over the fence spotting except if you stay airside where there is a good viewing area.

BHX is good with its facilities. I like MAN and LGW but its up to you. Personally I would go to LGW
