I think you are almost certainly right and the level of ‘serious research’ that goes into Richthofen is about as accurate!
I always think it is great that people say they can remember exactly where they were when Kennedy was shot. If I get asked I say “I was standing on this grassy knoll cleaning my gun when it went off accidentally!”

Seen it before, and it could be better!
So could most things that have ever been written about the Baron.
Talk about spinning a lot of stuff from a little source material.
